During part of my misspent youth, (supposed to be a hard working student) I used to go bowling at a hotel near Heathrow airport, then collect an early morning newspaper there and watch the planes coming and going, wishing I was on one. I stopped after 18th. June 1972, when Papa India came down at Staines. I was not watching that night, but flying home, on one of the last aircraft taking off just before it happened. I was going home for my 20th. birthday, and at this time of year I always think of those passengers and how lucky I was.

in reply to SORRELHIPPO

Yes funny how lucky you feel when accident's like that happen and some people who have never flown because they worry what could happen, I know someone who would never fly but as I pointed out planes never reverse into mountain's and law of probability says you have more chance of being run over by a car or truck. But these memories stick in your mind.

It is odd, I have fretted over quite a few things, but never flying, maybe doing it a lot as a child made it fairly normal. Much more dangerous on the M25 when it is snowing, and all the motorists do the yearly panic.

You've done so well getting all that done in such a short time, with your breathing problems and the heat. Now time for that well-earned rest.

in reply to Ergendl

I will probably sleep for a couple of weeks ☺️☺️☺️

Well done Dave. You definitely deserve time to yourself - and keep yourself away from the contents of those Covid carriers!

Now take it easy. I wish I was on that plane coming to a hot country. Saying that they are saying we will get 30 degrees next week. It’s a different kind of heat though.

in reply to Mavary

Yes here it's a breathable heat which is good for me , but doing stuff in the heats another matter πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

My view today

We flew back from Corfu last Sunday having spent a week in the glorious sunshine. No Covid for us but we caught colds in Corfu and my husband is in hospital with pneumonia and i have chest infection. I think it was going from 35 degees to 13 degrees with only shorts and tee shirts on. Stupid, stupid, stupid. We wore masks on the plane, but no one else was.Cannot wait to get back to Greece in September, for 6 weeks!,

Have a good rest now Dave you deserve it

in reply to Suzie42

Yes probably the climate change so fast temperature drop . Not good . I love being in a good climate for 90 percent of the year and I can cope with the rainy stuff in winter here

Thats true, but for the best. I couldn't have been that far away from my kids and grandkids

in reply to Suzie42

Yes but you have to think about yourself, you have brought up your children who have children of their own .. they are at the end of a phone and look at the holidays they could have with you.
