On Thursday, I posted that I had been diagnosed with Emphysema and I'd been given little information from the Consultant and so Googled it. One site said people had a life expectancy of 5 years from diagnosis and other sites had similarly doom laden information. I posted on here and the support, help and advice was amazing and it really calmed me down and put things into perspective. I'm just writing this to say a massive thank you to everyone who replied to me. I'm now feeling so much better and calmer about it all and that's is 100% down to you.

So pleased you’ve calmed down now Kazzachoc. We’re here for you so do stay in touch. Xxx
Just try to keep Positive and do as much as you can to keep moving. Others with the condition will advise you better than me. Brian
I was diagnosed with COPD severe 12yrs ago .life expectancy 1-5 yrs . Well here I am still going strong and feeling fine. I was terrified when I was first diagnosed, but then found out my illness is not terminal but progressive .I learnt how to slow the progression down and it works. Concentrate on what you can do not what you cant and take everything just that little bit slower. Go at your own pace, theres no rush.
Be grateful for every single day and remember theres always someone worse off You will learn breathing techniques that will make breathing easier . Enquire to go on a Pulmonary Rehab course it will help you immensely and you will meet others in your position who can give you Good advice.
Take care ,and the members here all have great tips for you . We are not medically qualified but can offer advice as we have the experience of living and coping with COPD which includes emphysema. Welcome to the forum and have a great day xxSheila 💕💕👍⚘
Don,t bother with Google, it,s all rubbish and scare mongering, because if it was true i shouldn,t be here now as i,v had Emphysema for over 5 years. BLF is the only place to get reliable answers and help. XX
Hope to hear from you soon and hope we can all help each other on our journey.
I was diagnosed with moderate emphysema in 2008 and I’m still here. Only just but that’s my fault because I never exercised at all. I wish I had now ! The key is to keep busy and not to fall into sitting around doing nothing because you’re chest is having a bad day. Get yourself up and work those lungs. Should listen to my own advice lol
Thanks for the advice Clanger and I'm sorry that you aren't feeling good these days. I don't know much really about what I should and shouldn't be doing as I've still to see my GP. I lead a pretty sedentary lifestyle. I work in an office so I'm sat down most of the day and to be honest I hate exercise I find it a real chore but if that is what I have to do to keep as healthy as possible then that is what I will do. I need a complete lifestyle change.
Hi, I hate formal exercise too. My view is that if we keep moving every day it will help. No death by sofa! Find an excuse to walk to the local shop (a bar of chocolate?), park far away from where you need to go, always use the stairs etc.
