As bronchiectasis sufferer recently started with virus/infection.
Following advice started doxycycline for 10 days. Initially improved but since Monday chest has become very wheezy/crackly & today feeling so sick, muscl aches & generally lousy.
Need t add had a bad reaction to 3 pfizer, the booster by far the worse.. Heart racing & extremely breathless.
Sputum sample negative so I'm convinced it's a kind of allergic reaction. On azithromycin for 10yrs find many antibiotics hard to tolerate.
Very worrying. 😞

It could be an allergic reaction. What does your doctor say? I really hope you start to feel better soon and can find an antibiotic to suit you. Wishing you well. Xxx
I had a horrible reaction to Doxycycline after being OK with it previously. Ended up in A&E. I am also allergic to Septrin and Trimethoprine. My emergency antibiotics are now restricted to 500mg Amoxycillin
I've reacted to both AZ vaccinations and this year's flu jab. I've always been fine with the flu jab. I'm now 63 and I've no idea why I've suddenly started reacting to drugs.
Did you have anything to eat with the doxy and did you lie down within 30 minutes of taking it? They warn about lying down making you nauseous but I've heard it's not good on an empty stomach
Hi.. Thanks for reply. It was day 8 of taking it.. After a biscuit & cup of tea... Though I felt ill last week after it with headache & generally unwell. This was very specific yesterday... Very shivery & aching muscles, nauseous & one cheek became very red. Did have a slight temp too. So poorly.Still aching but not as bad & chest more pruductive.Hard to know if it's the virus or the drug but really think it's the latter Like you.. I can't take ciprofloxacin, & others. Also seem resistant to amoxycillin.
I know my immunoglobulin results are low, think that impacts. Will be writing to my consultant today.Take care. 🙂
You know that I cannot speak with any authority other than that of a lifelong bronch. My gut feeling is that you have a really nasty virus which has gone to a bad bacterial exacerbation. The doxicyclin has not been effective against it because you are coughing up more. So you are dealing with a virus and and exacerbation together. Doxicyclin is not that effective against pseudomonas when it gets going. Not to say that you aren’t having an allergic reaction to it as well but thinking it could be that could be a red herring when you need proper treatment for an exacerbation.. You need some serious medical help and maybe some IV antibiotics. Can you get hold of your consultant’s secretary?
Thanks. Much better today than last night when I was sooo poorly Only saw the GP an hr os so before I took the capsule. SATS 99..she was delighted.. Hence my confusion. Nothing ever straightforward. 🙂
He glad u feel better.when did u have vaccine? Have u had covid test. It's annoying that whn should feel better, get worse days thrown in.they don't always get that 02 gd due to us clearing mucous.do rest up xxx
I found Doxycycline gave me oesophogitus. Very painful, which was helped by taking Gaviscon. I also tend to get thrush, up and down, with antibiotics. And Azithromycin gave me terrible mouth ulcers. Good way of dieting as I couldn't eat anything. Also, you have to have the right antibiotic to sort the particular bug you have. Doxycycline doesn't kill all bugs. Sometimes you may need an intravenous AB.
