Anyone here supporting a child with lung issues?
Welcome to this forum. I am so sorry to read what has happened to your daughter. It sounds horrific. No wonder she has anxiety, anyone would. I hope you have confidence with her medical team. It does seem that the right things are being done. There are members here who have joined looking for help and support for their offspring. All the best

HI, welcome to the forum. I cannot offer any advice about supporting your daughter but I am sure others on here will have children with lung problems and be along to speak with you. Good luck and all the best. John
Welcome to you and I really hope your daughter gets all the help she needs. Thinking of you both. Xxx
Hello and welcome to the forum. I'm afraid I have no experience to offer but hope there will be someone here for you to connect with. Your daughter is so young to have gone through such a traumatic time and is understandably very anxious. I wish you and your daughter all the best going forward with her treatment xxx😊
Hi I am a teenager that has OB if I can be off help feel free to fire away if I don't know my mum will.
Hi, thanks so much and sorry you have also had a very difficult time. She’s only 13 but I don’t think it’s the same thing … hers came out of the blue with collapsed lungs and then these weird cysts. I’m really hoping the next couple of appointments will give us a clue as to what it is cause she’s so anxious. Good luck to you x
Your daughter is bound to be worried my illness came out of the blue when I was 14 and its scarry but with your resurance and the Dr she will hopefully feel better with it all as time goes on .it's been 4 years for me and I still question everything that happens .hopefully your Dr's will reassure her and she gets the help she needs .xx
Hiya!
Sorry to hear your daughter is having a hard time of it.
I joined this site last year as my son was diagnosed with bronchiectasis as a result of his IBD. He went through a really traumatic time over a period of 4 weeks resulting in icu after complications from abdominal surgery. It took him quite a long time to recover mentally from it and if being honest still struggles now and then.
I think when you’ve gone through something that’s really frightening it never quite leaves you the same the person. The mental scars do fade but you don’t treat everything quite as blasé as you used to and you learn to take nothing for granted. A good thing really. It must of been extra tough when going through all this during Covid times when visiting is restricted and the wards to don’t feel their usual busy place.
I have no experience with pneumothorax personally but my cousins son has had two within the space of a year . The first one resolved on its own with just supplementary oxygen and the second needed a drain to help expand the lung. It was quite recently just before Covid struck . My cousin was terribly worried but the doctor assured her it was actually quite common especially in adolescent tall, slim boys. He’s now more careful when doing anything strenuous but apart from that hasn’t let him hold him back. I do remember him being quite anxious the first few months . Especially if he felt he was getting a cold that produce a cough. He’d focus on any twinge he felt in the lung area but that’s understandable and would always check in with doctors to be on the safe side.
I will say if she’s finding things too overwhelming and her anxiety is getting the better of her you should see if your GP could refer her for counselling of some sort, it could really help her to get out all the trauma she’s experienced and frightening feelings.
Wishing you both all the best.
Kelly
