What does the dwp think c.o.p.d is

β€’10 Replies

I'm stage four c.o.p.d and obviously receiving ESA but out of the blue for the second time my benefit was stopped leaving me totally unable to get my medication as I'm in Greece after the dwp stopped my ESA the first time for three years causing my c.o.p.d to escalate to the point it's at now

I didn't know UK ESA would be paid to someone living in Greece, could well be the reason why it has stopped. Hope you can get some assistance from the Greek government.

Maybe because we have left European Union. πŸ€”πŸ€”

Yes, I agree with Bkin, this is definitely the reason why the UK has stopped paying your ESA because the UK left EU. My Cousin lives in Athens more than 20 years now. If you are a registered resident in Greece you can apply for Disability allowance , if not you will have problems to get financial support. I would definitely check out the government websites in Greece what you need to get done to apply for it. I hope you can get this sorted out as soon as possible.

My payment was delayed due to a computer glitch. And yes I got ESA here in Greece as I was on it before leaving the UK and being stranded here was actually the dwp fault as I had clearance to be here as I was only visiting to pay my respects to my mother who had passed away here from cancer .

It appears from this website that you can only claim ESA visiting another country for up to 26 weeks could it be that you have passed that deadline?as it would also appear that benefits where also covered under "the withdrawal agreement" so that they where not suddenly stopped after Brexit?gov.uk/claim-benefits-abroa...

Got it sorted out it was a computer glitch changing the day of payment πŸ˜‚πŸ‘ because I'm near retirement I am on ESA and then go to pension if I don't have a bad flare up which could be the last . I keep positive and keep fingers crossed that doesn't happen since being on new meds it's cut down the flare ups but it's now a case of juggling how many times a day so far I'm at four times a day I was on three but there was a period where I was having problems . But pulmonologists here don't mince their words and told me point blank that one bad flare up say goodbye. None of this would have happened if my ESA hadn't been stopped in the first place because of false information being given to them especially as my trip here was actually sanctioned by my local jobcentre .

I for one could think of worst places to puff my last few breaths than on a rather beautiful Greek Island, perhaps our consultants are slightly less dramatic than your pulmonologist when it comes to discussing our prognosis, they are not wishing to cover things up but neither wanting to create more anxiety than is neccessary to get the point across.πŸ™ƒ

Oh I totally agree but I was warned they're direct πŸ˜ƒ and yes must agree having my last puff in beautiful weather at a lovely temperature with good food , and a beautiful sea I'm not complaining one bit 🀣🀣 sending you all some sunshine and warmth

Wishing you all the best, Davey. Really pleased your ESA was sorted.

Me too , being without any medication is not an option aswell as extremely dangerous due to flare ups . And obviously when you get stressed that just adds to the problem which is something that the DWP don't really take into consideration for anyone with a serious condition but as I've heard from others who suffer from different stages of c.o.p.d the dwp don't yet accept it as seriously as doctors do .
