THe Vaccine matter more confusing

Thought everyone might be interested in this , it seems the injections have become a lottery as to who gets them, as I hear in my city people under 60 are already receiving the injections while others in older age groups are still waiting as are the extremely vulnerable. Must be to do with whether you have transport to get to the venue at short notice or Drs choice who goes first. !!!! I would love to know if anyone else has similar experience of the vaccine queue qualification. :) :)

Not heard of that Katie and it’s not happening here. Pete had his jab yesterday and he’s doing well. Hope you won’t have to wait much longer. Xxxx

Thanks for reply sassy59 , do you think it might be a bit of panic gossip ? If it is then I would be a bit shocked at the person who sent out such facts. We have enough to contend with with out gossipmongering. Stay save & well, do you have snow by the way ? xx

I’ve no idea Katie but Snackjack seems to be saying a similar thing. That’s not good. You take care and I’m keeping everything crossed for you.

Stay safe and no snow here as yet. Maybe tomorrow. Xxxx😘

I think it’s a lottery sassie. My husband had his a week Friday. My next door neighbour same age same go hadn’t heard We’re A she’s H, but another neighbour B was done on the Wednesday before my husband. They are all over 80 My husband is CEV as am I , but I’m in the over 70 Group. There was also a number in the public domain which should not have been who were accepting anyone who rang. We’re also worried about availability of the second Pfizer injection

sassy59 profile image
sassy59 in reply toCatlover432

It does seem to be a bit like that Catlover. I don’t think some areas get a good supply. Our MP is looking out for us which is good.

Wishing you well. Xxxx

Thanks sassy. They keep going on about our mental health, but I think this is becoming the most anxiety making ever. Being home for almost a year now and also the year before when first diagnosed with Cryptogenic organising pneumonia, which could have been much worse as it’s not progressive as many other lung diseases, so I know I m Fortune , but have still been left with some permanent scarring. Just want to get off the b—— prednisolone now. Maybe in a years time 🤞

It seems there is some confusion over this rollout Katie. The press coverage isn't helping either. It seems that the four nations are all progressing at different speeds so this could account for some holdups. The Pfizer delay may not be helping either as that seemed to cause some panic in places. We can only go by what we're told on TV and I think when the Pfizer vaccines comes out the freezer they have to be used so quickly, risking wastage is not an option in some instances

I definitely think that it is panic gossip. Don’t forget that people in the NHS who are young are getting the vaccine. My friend’s son is a radiographer at Warwick Hospital and has had his. We wouldn’t begrudge him would we. My other friend is a volunteer driver for VASA. He is very busy taking people to Coventry Hospital and the Warks Golf Club amongst others, to get vaccinated. He hasn’t taken or seen anyone under 80 yet. Sit tight, don’t let the idiots get you down. Our turn will come.xx

Hello Little pom, who you mention are front line workers like my step daughter and freinds. And are supposed to be injected irrespective of age. We are talking about none clinically vulnerable under 60s in Coventry these are just ones seen as medically vulnerable by their GPs not CEVs like myself , in a specific age group or working on the front line in fact some are not working at all. I am fuming , at risk, still waiting with the chance I may never get the injection as they could run out or I could get infected and die. Sorry but this is not right , I don't mind if a front line worker as mine but object to being shoved to the back for others who are not in the top four groups as I am. Sorry for blasting off but it is not fair a set of criteria was set and is not being conformed to as it seems it is being left to individual health personel to decide whose eligible.

in reply tokatieoxo60

Sorry. There are very strict guidelines. Unless I knew these oeople by name I would not believe it. If you do know them, report the surgery doing it to the local PNC.

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply to

Thank you Little pom , I don't know them that well to know which surgery they attend. But I will try to find out .

in reply tokatieoxo60

In addition one surgery may be ahead of others with vaccinating their patient population.

deejames profile image
deejames in reply tokatieoxo60

If people refuse or don't turn up for their vaccines then those are offered to others who can come for them at a moment's notice. Perhaps these people fall into this category. Unless you know and have talked to them then you will not be able to know why they have been given the vaccine at this time. Perhaps best not to make judgements unless you know the specifics. Less stress that way I feel.

Take care your turn will come.

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply todeejames

I do know some of the persons , different GPs using different approaches or using it for people who can come at very short notice. It is a bit confusing for those waiting.

deejames profile image
deejames in reply tokatieoxo60

Certainly is confusing. Here is Scotland over 70s were told to expect letters this week. But not in my region !

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply todeejames

I did not even get a letter either for the sheilded list or the invite for vaccine. But my records show vulnerability and I have been registered as a sheilder since the 21st of March. But this time every thing is missing for many not just myself. However the newspapers seem to think the matter is under control and going according to media reports. As you say you have not had a letter. Hope you get some response soon.

Last week a friend told me her mum in mid 70s would have her jab this week, I thought yippee they're whizzing through them here. It transpired that she didn't have the jab. She'd been offered it because there was leftover vaccine in her village and she didn't call back in time so she missed her chance. They aren't yet giving it to CEV or over 70s here. Perhaps the younger people getting it in your area areas getting leftovers at short notice. P xx

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply topeege

Hi peege, This is what I thought that it might be left overs. But apparently not, are being given on grounds of vulnerability. But I thought it was supposed to be still based on over 70 in the top four groups hence the reason for my using the word confusion. The theory is supposed to be that the older you are the more likely you are to become seriously ill and need hospitilisation . Vaccine helps to prevent this and save the NHS collapsing under the strain. I fall into two catagories but still have not been invited and many over Eighties in my city are still waiting too. I have two phone numbers they can contact me on, email and snail mail. 😀 In fact here my mail has been coming next day even second class, to spite the virus. Obviously vaccines for so many are not going to be done overnight but think the criteria should be adhered to were ever possible. I would be struggling at short notice myself especially as I have mobility issues. Sorry to go on so long , hope your freind gets theirs soon. xx

The only younger people in our area that have received the vaccine appear to be front line NHS and care workers. If people want to cause anxiety and confusion then they would just say they are under 60 and not give the full facts.

Hi Katie. What you speak of is definitely not the situation here. Locally they have just started the over 70s and ECV's. Any spare vaccine (due to no shows) is given to anyone that can attend at very short notice rather than waste it. Take care. John

It all seems a total mess. A relation in Banbury in his mid 70ies and healthy got the jab last week as carer for his CEV wife. Totally unlike Sassie's experience. Banbury does seem to be well organised, unlike some places. Hope you get yours soon.

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply toAlberta56

I was under the impression that carers were in the top four groups anyway. But common sense says if you want to stop serious events the most vulnerable should come first, meaning age and illness is relevant . But someone has to be last too as its a massive task with such small staff levels.

I'm CEV and 50, I missed a call from my surgery yesterday but they left a message to phone on Monday re the Covid vaccine. I'm hoping I get it within the week, I know they have done the CEV over 70, and I think they've done most of over 75s as well. My MIL is 79, but with a different practice and has heard nothing.

They only started on Wednesday, but closed one site completely and ran from 8am to 8pm, with Covid marshalls directing parking and where to go. I'm in Cornwall, which is usually forgotten about or months behind!

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply toCollienut

Seems I am correct in my presumption a bit of where you live , not necessarily as the criteria says. Mine is a large practice area and I live in a large city the first one to do vaccines. Some of the smaller towns and villages are on target.

Collienut profile image
Collienut in reply tokatieoxo60

Possibly also how well organised the practice is and how much space, volunteers etc?

katieoxo60 profile image

Thats what it is about, the availability in areas of people to do it or supply transport to get you to a venue for the injection.

Collienut profile image

Same here Collienut, but I got a text yesterday for 2nd of February have accepted, its at another Gps and is recorded on my records as a clinically vulnerable appointment. Hope yours goes well and the other person gets theres pronto.xx

Here in Suffolk the majority of the vaccine centres only open last weekend so they are only on the over 80s, over 70 and CEV are not expected to get called until February. I do know some people who are mid 60s and not CEV or front line workers who have had both doses. The Pfizer vaccine apparently has used by either within 3.5 days or 3 days this was not widely known so when their local hospital (London) realised that they had a batch of vaccine which would be out of date before the scheduled appointments, they invited residents local to the hospital who could attend with very short notice. At least it was better than throwing away out of date vaccine

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply toBiker88

I think some areas are further on with their vaccine programme than others maybe due to population density. I have heard of 80+ who have not had it yet. My friend (lives in a different area) told me someone she knows got a call from GP to get a jab and she's younger than my friend or myself and we are 66. My friend's husband had his the other day and he's 70+. We seem to have 1 centre open where I live which is covering a large area so I think they are still on groups 1 and 2. though I sometimes feel it's a lottery according to how proactive your GP may be xx

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply towatergazer

Have to agree with you I think some of this is down to individual GP practice capability and after all they do have to do the other NHS care that their practice provides. But to spite being the first city to vaccinate even here it comes across as a hit and miss matter even though control of the viruses severity is dependent on people being done as swift as humanly possible.

Hi Katie, this is my first post/reply but while I understand ehat you're saying and sympathise, I feel I must add that my brother who is 55 has had his injection... Hes in Leeds, He looks fine and as if he shouldn't get get the injection... no sign of him being vulnerable maybe to some... He has one lung, he had one removed many years ago, He has type 2 diabetes on insulin 4 times a day, neuropathy and lives in constant pain, He has maybe 2 years left, Is exhausted and so poorly, i guess to some, He doesn't look vulnerable, but he is. My point is, Not all illnesses are visible to the gossips and peiple just trying to stir up fear hate and trouble. I hope ubgetvyourvvaccinatuon soon but just don't believe everything that is being said and reported.

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply toAnnalile

THank you Annalile for taking time to reply , I understand what you are saying about illness not visible but thats why we have the vulnerable list. I am on the clinically extremely vulnerable list and am over 70 too but you cannot see my illnesses. Or my disabilities just like your brother also I have just lost my son-in-law to cancer who died a few days after diagnosis who was not on the vulnerable list either. It is not to do with age , some vulnerable are being left without injections who are at risk sadly. Oh I have a lung condition too besides mobility issues due to arthritis . I take three inhalers in order to walk so understand how your brother feels we have to walk very slow and avoid stairs. Take care both and stay safe x

Hello Katie, my wife and I have both been vaccinated and are both under 60. I have COPD & Asthma my wife has no underlying illnesses. We got a surprise call from our GP asking if we wanted to be vaccinated and if so could we attend the surgery in 30mins for the appointment. I should have been vaccinated as part of group 4 and my wife in group 9 so we were very fortunate to get vaccinated early.

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply totraftraf

Hello Traf Traf, Think its all down to how fast you can get to the venue for vaccine. Which has shown in your case and others. Think some of us should be warned we can only have it quick if we can get to the venue ourselves. Otherwise its a waiting game I could have used a taxi but no contact.

I think it’s based on geographical area and GPs definitely as I read through these posts. I’m CEV just over 60 so I’m thinking I’m group 4 and yet in my area I have read on neighbourhood posts they are still doing 80 plus?

I’ll wait and see - the gov reckon group 4 will be done by 15/2/21 so if I don’t hear by then I’ll be making an enquiry

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply topepparuby1

I was going to do that as I am in group 4 , but have now received a invite for the 2nd of February and accepted. Fingers crossed I am well enough to go by taxi and it does not have to be cancelled.

It seems to be the same where I live and what GP you are with. My partner is over 70 and has an underlying condition and I have heard that people younger than them have had the vaccine.

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply topekingeselover

I had to smile as it seems you are in confusion also. This is because they have mixed age with the extremely vulnerable catagory but I understand why but others feel the CEVs should have been a seperate group not necessaryily to do with age although the older you are the more likely you may end up in hospital if you get the virus.

I agree with you Katie,it is a lottery, some Dr surgery are doing them, and not going in the order thats set out.they are making appointments for their own patients, who are over 65.Other Drs are jointly using centres who are doing the vaccine as set out.People in their 80s have not been notified yet, Because of the joint drs patients being very many. This is causing anguish and bad feelings, As some folks are cev and are over 80 and it seems to them its a matter of life or death. So are getting annoyed about it.This is happening in my area and there is quite bad feeling about it. Hope you hear soon and get your jab.

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply tor0yalalbert

Yes I hear in my area not all over 80s have been notified or received the jab. I have now had a text for the 2nd of February on the grounds of being clinically vulnerable. On checking this morning it is recorded on my records and I have kept the text on my phone. We in the top four groups are getting a bit annoyed in many areas. Mine is not at my own GPs its at another clinic in the area as have many of my over 80 freinds had to do , go to different surgery. I will need a taxi as I cannot walk that distance anymore even for my own GPs. Thanks for reply.

I called to book my vaccine with my partner who is over 70 and I’m under 70. Said can book my partner but not me. I asked why I couldn’t be booked at the same time. I also mentioned that my partner is visually impaired so I will need to take them to the venue which was the local hospital.

I told them that I am in the EMV group and shielding but they kept saying I need to wait for to book when they start vaccinating over 60s. Again I mentioned the government wants to vaccinate the 4 groups by 15th February.

What a system it is why not do both of us together as there is capacity to do so. She kept saying my husband had underlying condition and it’s the same for them. I said but I’m shielding as if I were to contract the virus I could potentially become very unwell. I personally think she didn’t understand the difference between the 2.

I was so angry and tearful after the call ended.

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply tobunnycaramel

The end of your reply is the bit that counts this fiasco is straining our mental health, especially as we don't have any control over it. Like your husband I have a visual impairment and I am finding it very hard to manage alone, but while we do we are seen as physically able and services have become lesser & lesser. I agree it would be more sensible to do you both at the same time, other GPs are. After all the surgery is the only place that knows your circumstances unless you have a social worker. It is a massive task but I am sure some leeway might help in the long term. Like your self I have shed a lot of tears this year , been angry, and felt ill too but at the end its still the same a shambles in some areas. Good luck with getting your vaccine.
