The old lighthouse
Glad to see you have had some blue sky today, dull as ditchwater here in Wiltshire for days!
Lovely blue sky. Grey skies here with more sleet and snow.
Do you have a little history of the lighthouse Blackbird? I love old things that had a purpose at one time. In fact I love social history full stop!Such an interesting shape this one.

If you google Lepe Lighthouse it will give you all the time you require .. Enjoy researching π
Very similar to the Cape Cod lighthouses in USA. In those parts the list of West country places names is astounding - Weymouth, Plymouth, Barnstaple Town, Falmouth, Taunton to name but a few. I would think given tha, the lighthouse design emigrated along with folk!
I agree Annie we've seen them, and the areas are lovely and some very English. Jane (wish I could travel)
Thats another interesting piece of information. Thanks Annie,
I like blue skies to cheer us up too in this grey weather. It looks a very windy place. I would like to know the history too . Very small light house but so it must be very flat around there.
We had no blue sky at all so nice to see some. Thank you πππ
Very unusual light house not seen one like that before. πxHolly
Wow how absolutely beautiful thank you for sharing, have a good night and take care π Bernadette and Jack π xxxxxx
Looks like you had a lovely day you dont see many lighthouse.β€
I just love this photo πππ
Thankyou Sara .. bit cold but sunny day always welcome π
Blackbird thanks for the info. That is so surprising. The old lighthouse at Lepe is a very young lighthouse, in fact built in 2000 for the millennium . Most surprising, and what a good idea . A lasting memory. I thought it looked like something from New England but nΓ², not at all. And I learnt more about the d day structures in the area too .and i didnt know that the coastgaurd was older than I would have thought Started in 1828. Lighthouses can be found d in most unexpected places Best lighthouse that ive been too was on a deserted island in Hebrides Had just 3 men stationed there then Now it is automated. Thanks
Beautiful sight to see sorry I did not reply yesterday.
How sweet -like the pine trees. xxx
Pine trees ?? π
The trees look to me like the pines in the Suffolk Sandlings, not to mention Ernest Sheppard's drawings of pines in the Hundred Acre Wood. My daughter agrees. Is there an arboriculturalist in the house? The lighthouse reminds us of a funny little drainage mill on Hickling Broad in Norfolk, which an artist converted into a studio. xx
