introducing me self I am David some years ago I started to have difficulty breathing with fluid on the lungs and pneumonia got that fixed and ended up with Emphysema. Did rehab exercises at the hall until they ended .Living on my own . having a fag and a cup of coffee seemed a better idea than home exercising and soon got into a rut. Me sure God gave me Emphysema for my retirement for a reason .Fortunately i was still sane enough to realise i had to get out of it so joined an archery club enjoyed very much joining in with all the new beginners like myself shooting at 10 yards but as the months went by expecting to increase shooting to a 100 yards shoot.Ofcoare walking all that way to get my arrows with all the other archers i was was always last back to the starting line and i felt i was becoming a nascence to them and an embarrassment to myself. So i got a mobility scooter that went very well until it started stopping now and then so i left the archery club. So here i am today a few years on .Last time i went out was Christmas day Corona Virus.

Welcome tetik / David

The very best thing you can do to help yourself is kick the smoking habit, but of course the choice is yours. its just that by continuing to smoke you are going to keep on damaging the lungs and things will become more difficult. Perhaps that was the message from the divine!

Awful you got coronavirus last Christmas, I expect its hard to determine if you have fully recovered from that.

To keep up with the exercises there are loads of copd exercises on you tube you can do at home. Its important to keep some form of exercise going, as well as looking after ourselves generally.

Best wishes

Welcome to the dodgy lung club,i am sure if you do a little research you may find a group that encompasses archery for the disabled, perhaps when and if life returns to some sort of normality you may be able to enjoy your pastime once again?in the meantime try to stay as active and healthy as you can at home so that you give yourself a fighting chance for future. :)

Hi David, I’m another first timer I have COPD in the form of emphysema but my main problem is Aspergillosis. I had to give up archery a few years back when my shoulder gave out and I struggled to draw a bow. I took up bowls indoors and outdoors but got so breathless I had to give that up. I’m do have a very supportive partner who is looking after me. I did invest in a PlayStation games console which gets used regularly, plus I do like the Lego technical kits. Also I like the crystal art pictures, bit like painting with numbers but with little resin crystals. Easy to pick up and put down and I find very therapeutic. So in all I’m still positive in my outlook and hoping this virus gets sorted and the hospice can resume it’s craft days and exercise classes

Hello and welcome 🏹 I don’t know how abundant archery clubs are, but I wonder if there’s another one you can join that would be more adapted to your needs. Maybe you’ll have the chance to look into it while things are pretty much on hold because of the coronavirus. It’s really good to be able to do something you enjoy .

I started singing in choirs over 50 years ago not that i could sing but it had helped to keep my lungs open. I find it a little difficult to take into account that just breathing can cause so many problems. I have stood shoulder to shoulder and with one person immediately in front in male voice choirs sometime with over 200 people for all these years and never gave it a thought that this basic human function could have devastating results.

As with all singing groups all rehearsals and concerts have been cancelled and the prospect of returning to what was "normal" seems very remote.

Hi, i am horrified to receive an invite back to my choir which as restarted,

Needless to say i am staying in my house.

Guess what they are practising, what is the worst thing to think of.? Yes the Messiah, all those H’s and ascending king of kings, cannot believe it.

Well a difficult piece to perform, but wonderful, when you get it right.

even under normal circumstances

, I sing with 3 choirs non of which are returning or at least no date given. I am hoping we start with "Breathe on Me Breath of God" Not that I am particularly religious but we need a bit of help from somewhere

Best wishes

Hi and welcome. So many well versed people in this site. You can also have a laugh too. Stop with the ciggies if possible and enjoy each day. Live in the moment. If you take care of yourself, exercise and take meds you can go on for years. 🐞
