Any number of things can cause or result in lung disease, often its more than just one thing that has caused the lung damage.

Hi Elsie, 👋😁

I do believe inhaling a small amount of asbestos over a short period of time will not put you at high risk of developing asbestos related disease. I think people who worked with it over long periods are more likely to get ill from it, often decades later.

When you were diagnosed with your lung disease what were you told about the possible causes?

Best wishes,

Cas xx 🙋🐕

They didn’t really cos I have never smoked and never had chest infections in childhood which usual cause of copd so said it is bronchiectasis which is sort of cystic fibrosis which is why I had 6 chest infections in 12 months was diagnosed with asthma 12 months ago now says it is bronchiectasis just been given steroids for a month and theophylline and Montkast tablets

Did they say your bronchiectasis was idiopathic? Which is quite rare which means there are no underlying causes such as aspiration, immunodeficiency, congenital abnormalities and ciliary anomalies (chronic respiratory tract infections or abnormally positioned internal organs) ? I know bronchs here on this forum and the advice I hear most is that you need to be under a bronch specialist. How did they come about with a diagnosis?

Sure hope you are feeling better soon Elsie. Lung disease can be caused by many things. Not just smoking and not just hereditary. bakers, potters, printers, builders, passive smoking, soo many more.

I can understand your concern, houses I have lived in have contained asbestos ....airing cupboard door, floor tiles, ceiling paint, soffits .....and I had a flaking ironing board 45 years ago.

I guess many of us who are older may have experienced similar houses.

But it was a bout of pneumonia that switched on my lung problems, strangely enough my lungs are now relatively free of mucus, just my upper airways cause a cough.

Look after yourself with a healthy diet, exercise , etc. The BLF have a website and leaflets with lots of handy tips.

The BLF also have a helpline , if it would help you to talk to someone about your concerns 03000 030 555 ....open during office hours.

Best wishes .

Hi there, I guess if you had been exposed to it for a prolonged period then there is a chance you are infected. Inhaling the contaminated asbestos environment is harmful to human health and can cause severe lung diseases like cancer or asbestosis.

The symptoms of asbestos are shortness of breath, dry cough or even chest pain. Also the other symptoms include pain and swelling in certain places along with difficulty to swallow, loss of appetite and herniated abdominal muscles.

If your experiencing any of the symptoms then there is a chance you are infected by the exposure of it.

I suggest you get in touch with an asbestos removal service (priorityrestoration.com/res... ) immediately before it gets much worse or cause health problems to other people around you.
