Sedentary behaviour (SB) has been identified as an important mortality risk factor. Health organizations have recognised SB as a public health challenge with major health, social, and economic consequences. Researchers have alerted the need to develop specific strategies, to monitor, prevent, and reduce SB. However, there is no systematic analysis of the SB changes in European Union adults. We aimed to examine SB changes between 2002 and 2017 in the European Union (EU) adult population.

Changes in sedentary behaviour in European Union adults between 2002 and 2017.
It's quite worrying that what is classed as sedentary behaviour seems to be cumulative, and the researchers are counting from 4h30 upwards. In the daytime I hardly sit down but in the evening I feel more tired, and even at this time of year it's getting dark earlier, and I tend to sit around.
I am told to move once an hour. Exercise as possible and pace the day within my physical limits and endurance. Those with chronic conditions have little choice about aspects of exercise and behaviour. Over the past two years I have learnt that if I try too much then I can possibly affect my abilities for days. Everything is a balance. I wonder how many in the study had chronic conditions? My pain management team taught me how to manage my various pain syndromes but if I was to answer this survey then I would be one of the many with sedentary behaviour.
I set my Fitbit to remind me to move every hour from 9 am to 9pm. But a lot of my work is done sitting at a computer or a keyboard, so I am definitely sedentary for a total of more than 4hr 30 mins a day, despite the 10,000 daily steps I do. Does it mean that sort of sedentary lifestyle, or simply flopping down in front of the telly all day?
I take a walk along my canal bank every morning unless the weather is bad. I not only get the exercise but have a chat as well which is good for me as I live alone.
