Beautiful photo. How far away are you from the butterfly? The close-up detail is so clear.

Only about a foot away it followed us for a little while and then settled down when we sat on the grass the colours are awesome πŸ˜ŠπŸ’œ

The origin of the name for an insect with colorful wings that is currently called a "butterfly". Very astute of her, from the mouth of babes.

The Dutch had a strange name for it πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

When I called them flutterbuys, Granny started calling them that too, she said she could never understand what they had to do with Butter. Grandpa, just gave up on both of us.

I'm going along with your Granny as I much prefer the terminology flutterbuys 😊

What a beautiful little creature. I think it's a Silver-studded Blue.

Mm the silver studded blue are pretty common around the forest here they live by the scores on the gorse and are similar to what you posted ..the one I took the picture is much bigger than the blues it had more brown and white speckles πŸ’œπŸ’œ

It's such a stunning photo, perhaps you might want to send it to one of conservation groups for ID? Whatever the species, with those large eyes and fluffy body, it's just adorable.

Magnificent creature, so beautiful and what a photo. Here in Manchester we dont seem to have these, perhaps its too busy in a city or too cold here in the north maybe x

They live on the forest gorse bushes and apparently are common in warmer weather around the south of Hampshire πŸ’œπŸ’œ

Its is the underside of the wings of a common blue, much prettier I think on the underside 😊 : dorsetbutterflies.com/speci...

Oh yeah that’s a flutterby for sure no questions asked here. For some reason unbeknownst to me they also have a big association with rainbows and throwing flowers up to father sky so use to say my grand when she was little. Now taller than me an hoping going into high school will mean going into a classroom situation! Me too✌🏼
