Rome (AFP) – The coronavirus was already present in two large cities in northern Italy in December, over two months before the first case was detected, a national health institute study of waste water has found.
Researchers discovered genetic traces of Sars-CoV-2 — as the virus is officially known — in samples of waste water collected in Milan and Turin at the end of last year, and Bologna in January, the ISS institute said in a statement seen by AFP on Friday.
Italy’s first known native case was discovered mid-February.
It's interesting now these facts are emerging. I wonder if other countries will produce similar evidence.
I don't doubt it was about Nov/Dec 19 - I had covid symptoms late Dec / early January 2020, those typical of covid-19 high fever persistent dry cough and exhaustion.
I thin I shall be shielding every winter forthwith and just hope in later years I will be able to enjoy the summer as we have known in previous years.
It’s interesting reading these findings now. It would be interesting to know if the U.K. had cases before the first case. Particularly as many have experienced symptoms before
I had cv symptoms as did my husband in December 2019 a few days after flying home from Tenerife. We both had a few days of feeling fluey. I caught ‘it’ after he had it for a couple of days. I caught it 23rd December and was unwell all Christmas 🎄. Neither of us have had any test. Lots of people are saying the same that they were ill before CV was in the Uk. We are both asthmatic so try to avoid the lurgerys!
