A corona virus local fb page that I’m a member of has had someone asking if they are allowed out for hour walk/exercise.

The response was no, not at all, you are but even supposed to go out into your garden!! Can someone please clarify what the recommendation is?! I’m confused, I’ve been going out for a walk or a little jog am I risking my health/life in doing this 💖

The government have said yes you can go out to exercise locally. Avoid contact with people. If you are in the shield group no dont go out only in your garden if it is away from people. Just try and be sencible DONT mix with people. Unless you realy have to keep well

i've heard that although they advise you to stay in if possible, they've also said you can make your own decision. my interpretation is that if you're happy to exercise indoors or are lucky enough to have a suitable garden, then fine, stay in. but if your option is "fruit loops" or a walk, then go for a walk.

sorry i can't tell you where i read that, but i'll get back to you if i find it again.

Ha ha, thanks. I think the endorphins that are release with exercise and fresh air, would probably help rather than hinder.

I do live in a rural/beach area 💖

so you'd get that fresh sea air as well as the endorphins. lucky you.

if you go out for exercise, you probably know the rule is still "one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household.

also still the 2metre/6feet rule for distancing from others

what then is obviously confusing people, is it depends which group of people you come in. whether you are "vulnerable" or "extremely vulnerable" or have had "the letter".

if you're extremely vulnerable/have had the letter then

"You are strongly advised to stay at home at all times and avoid any face-to-face contact"

if you haven't quite gone fruit loops you'd do well to read the government advice, not least because you can then refute whatever advice someone who hasn't quite understood chooses to give you. the link for "shielding" advice is:

gov.uk/government/publicati...

and if you want the short version it will come up in my next post ~ but is not for the fainthearted. (so either sit down with a cup of tea and draw a deep breath* first)

*nb: for those with lung disease, draw a quite short and shallow breath

good luck, and i hope you feel less like a prisoner soon. i wish we all had gardens to sit/walk/jump up and down in.

below is a small excerpt from the government advice (link in previous post if you want to read the whole thing)

Shielding is for your personal protection. It is your choice to decide whether to follow the measures we advise. Individuals who have been given a prognosis of less than 6 months to live, and some others in special circumstances, could decide not to undertake shielding. This will be a deeply personal decision. We advise calling your GP or specialist to discuss this.

The NHS in England is directly contacting people with these conditions to provide further advice.

If you think you fall into one of the categories of extremely vulnerable people listed above and you have not received a letter by Sunday 29 March 2020 or been contacted by your GP, you should discuss your concerns with your GP or hospital clinician.

You can go out for a walk alone and self distancing unless you’ve been told to stay home for 12 weeks in which case you have to be in your home or private garden.

Morning all - Check out nhs.uk website for full details. There is very important info about staying at home and staying safe for those of us in a high risk group or staying at home if someone we live with has symptoms of coronavirus.

If you are other and are not showing any of the symptoms you can go out for only 4 reasons (all on the nhs website) and then for a limit time only and ALWAYS staying 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household.

Not what you're looking for?
