Why is panic buying of toilet rolls causing blocked sewers?

Panic buying of toilet roll is leading to blocked sewers because those left without toilet paper are being forced to use alternatives and are disposing of them incorrectly.

The warning comes from water company Northumbrian Water, which said an increasing number of people were flushing wipes, kitchen roll and newspaper down the toilet.

Probably the cotton fiber content in the paper is greater today, plus the population centers have a greater population. Only possible explanations, no idea if I am correct or not.

My husband used to manage blocks of flats. There were sometimes blockages in the sewers, firstly from so called "flush-able wipes" which are not regarded as this by the sewer providers, then a lot of people pour their hot used fat down the drain, instead of into a container, where it can be cooled and thrown away. What happens is that the fat can collect on other items in the sewers, then solidify and create large balls of blockages.

Goodness gracious ! as if hot fat was bad, never thought of this. Do hope new stocks arrive before it's too late. I never put wet wipes down toilet read that along time ago. Do the deliveries that do arrive , need more time to stack shelves . Or is it so relentless.

For goodness sake what is the matter with people, dont they have any sense. All wipes and anything other than toilet tissue should not be put down the loo. Lets hope the supermarkets can get these back on the shelves pronto x
