You mention bronchiectasis in your title. If so you are in the at risk group spoken about by the govt today. It is difficult for you to avoid infection if you have children at school. The risk of your children being badly affected is far lower than it is to you. I think that you need to get advice as to how you can be helped not to be infected by your children and help so that you can distance yourself from possible sources of infection.

As of today I’m keeping my children off although my daughters school has just closed as they think they have a suspected member of staff with the virus dear oh dear!! I’m hoping to get a phone call today! Thanks so much for your reply. Stay safe

I had none cf bronchiectasis too and sepsis and pneumonia guess that’s what trashed my lungs

Keeping active and coughing stuff up will help clear lungs

I was on permanent antibiotics for 3 years that had to rotate every 6 to 12 weeks now have been of them over twelve months

Am not sure if you have nebuliser but if suffering from lot of infections might be you have trouble clearly chest

Might be worth asking you doctor about getting nebuliser BUT I would only if doctors are ok

I have been on non stop antibiotics but I have a heart condition too so some of the antibiotics upset that too. I also have a nebuliser too my children are now staying home but my daughters school had closed due to a member of staff maybe having the virus. Thanks for your reply stay safe.

Are you in the UK? I’m in the same boat and can’t take the risk of sending my daughter to school. We’ve decided that we are all staying home now for the 12 weeks no matter what. It’s all very well for the government to say ‘children are not affected badly’ but they are not considering that they come home to vulnerable people and can still spread it. It may reduce the worry if everyone stays at home. Take care.

Yes I’m in the UK it’s so scary isn’t it exactly the children can be the carriers I get really poorly just from your average cold so doesn’t take a lot for me to become ill and need hospital treatment anyway I’m now keeping the children off although my daughters school has closed as they suspect a member of staff has got the virus not what I wanted to hear late last night! Stay safe

Most of European countries closed all schools and kindergardens. In our country schools started with remote learning. I hope they do the same in UK as soon as possible. Take care.

So difficult for you & others. Self isolating for you & your children with support for shopping etc. This Govt needs to step up & get support to people who don't have a support network. Wishing you stay well! 🙏❤️

You’re doing the right thing keeping the kids home. I think it’s totally wrong to keep the schools open. The government are scared having working mums or dads home to look after their kids will destroy the economy. The economy is going down the tubes worldwide anyway. I’m 65 widower. Live alone and have bronchiectasis. In my case it’s fairly mild as I can exercise and walk without being out of breath. I took my last country walk yesterday and will stay indoors until further notice. It’s just not worth the risk as I walked past another walker who was coughing constantly. Haven’t seen my children/grandchildren for 2 weeks but it’s ok, we have FaceTime and texting and phoning and they’ve started to drop off groceries outside my front door!!

We are virtually on a war footing. There are no gunshots but like our parents and grandparents before us, we have to batten down the hatches and stick out that stiff upper lip for which us Brits are famous.

I feel warm and fuzzy when I read these posts. There are such sage wise words from people here. You’re all such a wonderful support system. Big hugs to you all.

Neil (my real name)

Totally get it - my mum has Bronch and petrified of an exacerbation (as don't want her to go to hospital either.)

First, fear is good but, nothing has happened yet and may not so worry about what you can do, not what you can't do.

Second, have you got a rescue pack of antibiotics ? if not, get 14 day's worth from calling your GP. (sure they'll help) Although I think you're already taking antibiotics. This will allow you to immediately do something if you get a bacterial infection in the midst if this crisis.

Third, these are unprecedented times, you don't need permission to jepp you and your kids alive. You're a high risk group so if your kids are at an age that you can leave them with you at home an isolate - take them out of school! It's your life, not the head teacher's or a politician.

Better SAFE than SORRY!

Keep safe

P.S I realise my post was a directive and I have no right to say that - so what I posted is just what I personally would do. I'm self isolating with my mum, till the worst has past. Fortunately we are just about able to do this financially, not everyone is the same boat.

Hi beckijo you are bound to be worried if I was you I would put all thoughts all day and every day for next few weeks on staying virus free even if you become obsessed and OTT . What’s a few weeks out of your life it will pass and life will get back to normal. Staying at home a lot ,getting things. delivered, going for a drive then a walk where u will not meet people ,cleaning keeping hands bugfree , leaving shoes outside coats in bin liners out side porch or garage. Anything goes we are in emergency measures you will be too busy to worry a very different life just till the summer. Take care keep safe xxx
