I have bronchiectasis and a certain amount of fibrosis, plus acid reflux and several other complaints and am 73. I have been leading my life fairly normally up to now, but do not want to contact coronavirus as I think I would be seriously affected. Also I don't want to add to the NHS workload, which is going to be astronomical. Am thinking of trying to semi-self isolate- avoiding meetings I would normally attend and cancelling a five day holiday in England in 10 days time. Do people think I am being over dramatic or being sensible. What are other sufferers doing? All the best to everyone.

Is anyone self isolating?
I personally think you are being very sensible and it’s those sort of precautions that will help keep you and others safe.
Pete and I are not going out unless completely necessary and Pete’s not going out at all at the moment.
Take care xxxxx
I don't think that you are being over dramatic. We have to protect ourselves in the best way we consider. At the moment I have stopped my volunteer job, theatre, similar gatherings. Avoiding shops and restaurants where poss, not inviting people into my house. I am going out to the village shop and walking the dog and popped into work for a chat yesterday because we are quiet and I didn't have to stand close to anybody. I will tighten up on this as needed. We all have different situations to consider. Don't worry about what other people thinl. It is your health and peace of mind which is important.
Thanks for your advice- Take care and keep safe
You are being personally and socially sensible and we all must do similar things to help contain the virus spread, they don't have to be draconian measures like in Italy at the moment but all of our responsible actions will help.
I think you have made the right decision, I am also self isolating, I have emphesyma heart problems and a few other conditions. I agree the NHS will be really up against it so anything we can do to help we should do. Have a good day and take care of yourself 😊 Bernadette xx
I am limiting going out unless absolutely necessary. I am not a panicking but as ski put it being socially responsible.
I'm 9 days now , Will stay put till The all Clear allows me to do otherwise, Better to be Safe. COPD Severe Stage 4, Oxygen, Best of luck to you all. Stay Well. xxx C.
I have been advised to do exactly what you are doing, which I was anyway. I hope you keep well xx
Had to call the Council Plumber in Today, Very Good Service Knowing my Condition, They acted Immediately. The young Man put the Mask Hubby gave him He Had his own Hand Gel with him, We did offer him ours. All Handles wiped Down with AntiBac wipes. All sorted in 10 Minutes, Now have Heating & Hot water. Excellent Service from our Local Nottingham Homes. XXX C.
I am the same as you Happyhare I have your health issues and I am keeping away from others as much as I can. I have no more appointments now, we are doing on-line shopping but having to wait 6 days for it to be delivered, we are only doing this because of my health issues.
It’s probably the safest thing for us people with lung issues to do at the moment. All the best x
I cancelled holiday in june to spain. Dont want to get stuck abroad if i get it. This week i am trying to stay in. Had to go bank monday to sort affairs put scarf round face and mefical gloves on. I would like to self-isolate but I cannot afford to be off from work. I work in Central London and have to take the Tube to travel in and out.
Bronchiectasis and a heart valve issue - so frightening but trying to be as careful as I can. Constant hand washing and anti-bac
Hi happyhare, I think you are being sensible. However others will disagree. I have bronch too but I am trying to be positive and lead a relatively normal life whilst being aware that certain groups are probably too dangerous to attend. For instance i have a quilting group but as we all sit very close together and we are all of a certain age with chest problems it is better if I stay away. Take care Maximonkey
Thanks for your reply-take care.
hi Happyhare,
I have similar condition to yourself and think self isolation is the only thing to do now.
I am keeping busy at home and being inventive in the kitchen, the sun is shining and i am trying to have happy thoughts.
i am alone, and have email, phone etc so plenty orf contact.
Keep safe, you are doing the right thing
Sopsx
Your not being to careful. My husband has copd and heart failure and has been in for 11 weeks. He is on a concentrator 24/7 with canasters if we go out. I chose to isolate with him. We are both over 70 but he's classed as vulnerable. I could scream some days but know we are doing the right thing. We can sit in the garden and I Potter around. No kisses or cuddles from each other or the children and grandkids. Breaks our heart but they pop up and wave through the windowXxx
You are not being dramatic. I am self isolating as I have bronchiectasis and asthma. I received a letter from nhs to do just that. It should be what you want/need not to worry about what others think. Keep well, keep safe.
