What to expect

Hi all,

After a ct scan showing multiple ground glass opacity and problem with my bronchi tree in bud what ever that means finally going to have tests and see a consultant after a 4 month wait.

Symptoms are short of breath, back shoulder chest pains.

Please can you tell me what tests to expect and if I need to prepare any questions to ask at first consultation.

Many thanks

Stress can cause us to tense up and create pain in our shoulder muscles. Keep a pad near and when questions occur to you, write them down. Take the list to the doctor with you. No question is off limits. Stay in touch. Best wishes. J

Yes at hospital you may go in a cockpit and various blow tests will happen. Worst is cut off air and you still have to blow.. It was at 80F when I had mine... It's not hard at all or scary. other tests will be peak flow and Spirometry when you just a Blow in a tube like thing and the other through a pipe. It's a while since I had mine, not sure if cockpit test is still done.

Sorry, haven't been on for a few days... Just had a PFT, Pulmonary Function Test. The test is to learn how your lungs are functioning within established perimeters age, wt, height..... I'm no expert, but the most important numbers are your FEV scores, and your DLCO, which show how much air you can breath in and out, and how much oxygen your lungs are transferring into your blood. Yep...the cockpit is still being used, and you will for a few seconds be shut-inside of it. Not at all painful or scarey...unless you have that phobia relative to closed in spaces. Hope this helps...J

PET SCAN which shows more detail. "multiple ground glass opacity " Am I correct it showed "multiple ground glass opacity ": I know little about this but it is not necessary anything malignant.. I read that up as I know little and am having multiple scans myself... Good Luck

Hi

You may also have allergy tests which are just pin pricks in the arm. Full blood tests to see if you will benefit from any vaccinations. Expect to be asked about your symptoms and the history of the symptoms. Also about your family history and any illness in your family. Will probably ask about work too. They should also refer you to physio to help expel mucus. As others have said write down your questions so you can refer to them. Will also help if you have another pair of ears with you. Also make sure you are copied into any correspondence to your GP. Good luck.

Hi don't know if my advice is too late you've prob seen consultant but I'll put my 2 penith in GSD I went for my tests last year they gave me 3 separate different scans blood tests and the spirority test which basically y is blowing down a pipe at different speeds then breathing normal then breathing oxygen takes about 2ins in total nothing difficult or worrying about it all this is generally done before you see your consultant ...has others have said if you can take someone with you .I suggest you write down what you've done in your work life what you've come into contact with relevant family history past times ect as when you see them it's easy to forget .Don't be afraid to ask if you need any clarification take your time they will examine you hands ankles legs and knees In my case and upper torso. My ake sure that you get sent any correspondence they send to your Drs .it's going to be a difficult time now with the virus so you will have to be patient .I don't know your age or circumstance but have you got or considering pip......main thing is youust your tag keep yourself safe you are vunerable hope I've not covered old ground but hey how any advice is good advice

Take care just wonderd if your Tag Name GSD 68 was anything to do with German Shepherds as we had the a lifetime and got a5 yr old now

Take care stay safe

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to write,

I had my consultation with respiratory doctor in January, I believe I'm diagnosed same has you.. Interstitial lung disease, he explained in detail showing my scan that evidence of Centrilobular ground glass nodules and more prominent in top right lung (hence pain that area) and inflammation in my bronchi small airways is causing shortness of breath and pain chest and back, my spirometry results was good fev1 but a problem in the gas transfer to blood stream only 55% oxygen getting in blood, he explained the reason was inflammation in my Avoeli. Going thru many history questions he concluded my diagnosis of Respiratory Bronchiectasis Interstitial lung disease. Put me on ventoln inhaler and mucas thinner medication, and he would ct scan and follow up 3 months (not going to happen now with covid).

And yes I relate to your tiredness just halting you quickly!

Been mulling over PIP as work is becoming difficult but I believe the whole process a nightmare!

Also you are spot on with my tag German Shep I'm on my 2nd fur kid now she is also 5yr, long coat and gentle nature crazy pup. Thanks for the follow you're right there isn't much info on ILD, I wonder if we are in the vulnerable category?

Yes we are in the vunerable category my Drs rung me today and told me I should not go out as I'm in cat one and should be getting a letter this week . You can't beat having a GSD I'm in a Facebook group with over 5thousand plus members we all post from time to time and get some great advice chat and post photos it's a God send especially now I'm stuck in I still am sneaking out with dogs and wife for 30mins walk I've got a copy X Shepherd as well she's like a mini version of a Shepherd very weird looking 10 yr old now You should be looking into the PIP yes it's a pain in the arse but I'm not being funny but seem to be worse than me as My lungs are heavily scared but I've been on a pulmonary lung disease 6 week course and I was clocking up 95 % oxygen I'm out of breath only when walking or doing something when I'm sat down like now I'm as normal as a fit bloke but can't sit down all day lol You must have read what I went through last week it's been a long hard slog but got there and it doesn't matter if your working you can claim plus after you get to 64 you can't claim it but if you get it it carries on into your pension if you need advice you can get it on here from admin or me I was 64 yesterday so I'm one of the lucky ones how lucky was I to get to tribunal on Friday before it all shuts down anyway sorry for going so much us Yorkshire lads can rattle on..take care stay safe if your interested about the GSD Facebook let me know I'll send you info
