Hello Alan, Do you suffer with a lung condition? I assume you do as this Forum is for lung problems. I suffer with bronchiectasis and before I had the diagnosis, became almost completely deaf in on ear. Apparently the bronchiectasis combined with chronic rhinitis has caused the deafness. There is a build up of mucus behind my middle ear which has resulted in me having a hearing aid. My consultant has now agreed to drain my ear and fit grommets. I hope this operation works and gives me a better quality of life. I mention this as your hearing problem could be similar. Have you had a recent cold? If so, the mucus that you blew out from your nose could have released a blockage in one of the tubes in your ears. It would be a good idea to get your ears checked by your doctor who might make a referral to ENT for you. All the best, Chrys

On Wednesday last week I woke up with a blocked left ear. It felt like when you get shampoo in your ear. It was horrible and just wouldn't clear for days, I couldn't hear anything in that ear except a faint hissing sound. Yesterday it was starting to improve and today is almost totally better. I have no idea what it was. I hope yours starts to improve soon 🤞

I do get wax and need ears syringed occasionally but I’ve had back to back chest infections (one may have been a virus) over Christmas and lost hearing in one ear. If I hold my nose and blow it clears for a second or two (fab) then dulls again. I think it’s mucus behind the eardrum and I’m hoping it’ll improve gradually. You may be the same.

Hi alanm70, if you’re worried then try and get an urgent appointment with your doctor and explain your problem.

I wish you well. Xxxx

Put olive oil on cotton wool put in ear. Try warming olive oil ring doctors surgery book appointment to see the Nurse and hopefully should be wax. I'm having same problem at the moment. Keep olive oil going til you see nurse.

Could be fluid in the middle ear given that blowing your nose eased it temporarily. If it was wax build up blowing your nose would not clear the blocked feeling.

Getting a check up with your practice nurse would tell you whether it is wax or not. Putting warm olive oil in your ear will do no harm but avoid putting cotton wool in after as that will absorb all the oil and not help soften any wax that may have built up.
