Deaf in one Ear but it still aches!

About 25 years ago I had an experimental grommet fitted into my left ear. Within few hours it was totally blocked, but I had to wait 7 months for it to be removed, by which time I was told that the nerve was dead and I wouldn’t be able to hear through it. However now I still get earache in it! Does anyone else have any experience of this situation please. Thanks x

Sorry I can’t help Jean. I have tinnitus which has affected my hearing but no grommets or earache. Xxxx❤️

Hi Jean I have bad hearing problems due to my pcd but never had grommets. YES deafness and pain. I used to sit in class itching my left ear till it squelched. Always had problems.

I had a grommet in 1992 in my left ear after a lifetime of painful ear infections and burst eardrums. It definitely solved the problem and dropped out by itself 8 yrs later. That ear is still a bother and I get vertigo from time to time due to the crystals in it juggling the little bones in there. Whenever anyone looks in that ear they say that it has lots of scar tissue. That's not much help but at least you know you aren't on your own.

Terrible that you had to wait so long for it to be removed Jean. I dont have any experience of this but had a problem a few years ago when in Tenerife and suffered from a bout of labrynthitis that knocked me for six. I suffered with this for almost 4 years and my hearing never returned to normal. I do get pains in my ear from time to time and get antibiotic eardrops from the doctor which helps x

Hi Izb what ear drops do you use. I use to be prescribed Sofradex but it appears to be off the market now. These were the only drops that actually worked. Just curious

I’ve never had grommets but have been diagnosed has having chronic sinusitis ( although I’ve never been referred to ENT 🤷🏻‍♀️) which can at times affect my earring very badly , no pain but the usual itching , leaking , itchy dry flaky skin and hearing loss. It’s a nuisance and it’s only when you actually suffer from hearing problems that you realise how debilitating it is 😡. However my niece had grommets fitted about 50 years ago , the poor child suffered terribly with very painful earache and quite bad hearing loss until they were fitted , they helped enormously ( I’ve no idea how long they were in place ) and her hearing did improve but 50 years on she still suffers from hearing loss and occasional bouts of pain, it’s something she’s just learned to live with Sorry I can’t give any more helpful info . I hope you find some medication that brings some relief xx
