I often think that GP surgeries should provide hand sanitisers. Mine doesn't and there are several doors to open along with a touch screen check in facility. I could say the same about dental surgeries. I read an article recently that said a major source of bacteria and viruses, including norovirus, are supermarket trolley handles.
I totally agree Carole. I had a nasty tummy bug in March 2018 and I blame the supermarket trolley. I’m more careful now.
Any grandparent who takes little ones out need to be aware of high chairs. They need anti bacterial wipes used on them. Not often cleaned. Xxxx
It's a bit of a minefield out there sometimes. I think most of us dread picking up a bug. I keep a hand sanitiser in the car and avoid touching my face when I'm out without gloves on. Hope you and Pete are as well as can be. xx
Maybe check with the Surgery receptionist if hand sanitiser is available. I think its pretty standard practise now that GP surgeries and dental provide hand sanitising gel for visiting patients to use. Both mine do.
Mine doesn't but I carry my own sanitiser. Hopefully others do too!
Nor does my surgery, but like you I carry my own everywhere, along with the rescue inhaler and a pack of tissues, a habit.
Me too even with it provided at docs and dentist. Its so dodgy this time of year with all the bugs about.
Nope, not mine. As others have said, I have my own. You are fortunate that your surgeries provide it.
Pete and I always use sanitizers even at the GP surgery as norovirus is really awful, we both had it over 5 years ago.
Pete has a respiratory appointment early next month so we will be very careful and stay focused.
Thanks for the heads up 2greys. Xxxx
Must have been awful for you both to get the bug. I hope you never pick it up again.
Yes Sassy, I had it a couple of years back and dread it happening again as I can't move quickly due to 2 types of Arthritis. I don't fancy carrying a bucket around with me 'just in case'.
We caught it from our grandson and certainly wouldn’t want it again. Xxxx
I picked up the Norovirus while I was in Hospital with an Exacerbation, The Nurses had to Put Masks on Immediately before coming into my Room. One Nurse, a Local friend, gave me my First Masks to take home, ever since I have masks with me all the time, Especially in GP & Hospital waiting rooms . I bought mine on Amazon, they are Disposable. So many unclean Hands around these days. I also have in my coat Pocket and Home, Little bottles of Hand sanitizer. xxx
Gosh, what a nightmare coping with that and trging to breathe as well. Hope you never have a repeat of that.
That’s awful Carolina. We also carry the hand sanitizer with us but Pete won’t wear a mask. He’s very stubborn. Xxxxx
I have big and small bottles of Purell everywhere!! And, I got the packaged wipes, too....when out shopping with friends I have noticed they come to me with smiles and their hands out for a squirt of gel...
I also carry a small bottle of Listerine....
Take care pretty one.
Meg
The little bottles are great.they-fit iyour pocket
Was at hospital Monday for out patients appt.
Was in the loo, reading the poster about 1 in5 not washing their hands.
The woman next to me was on of the 5.
Carry gel in my pocket.
Also when I am coming out of loo,use paper for bolt/ handle.
Am immunosuppressants,so it makes me nervous!,
Thank You Hun, Learnt a lot since those days. Always be prepared. No, Been in Hospital Twice since then, But well Guarded for the Germs. XXX
My docs surgery and the dentist do supply hand saniters. I am UK south, it will be good if our supermarkets start providing the wipes as well, I do always wear gloves when out and in supermarkets when shopping, that helps. I hate touching anything after I have washed my hands when out, and use my scarf or clothing to grab hold of door handles if I am not wearing gloves. Every little precaution helps.
We’ve had norovirus in our local hospital, which is where I’m at the moment.
I have hand gel and use it liberally norovirus is the last thing I need.
I have another bout of pneumonia, I do question when it will all end, prob when I’m in a box!
Interesting point keyboards harbour more germs and virus’s than a loo!! Make sure the admin team are using sanitiser

A useful reminder. I was at the hospital today and washed my hands as soon as I got home.
Strewth! Reading all this I must be absolutely crawling, stay clear! 😟
Here in Spain people DO NOT believe in bugs, they'll kiss you and embrace you when you are introduced, saying "encantado", and when you come across a friend he/she will be all over you in a sec and only afterwards will say I'm not feeling well at all with this bad "gripe"
I jump backward, say NO kissing, I'm sick... but the moment I lower my guard... actually in this island (Mallorca), every day, the bugs have a field day !!!
A good reminder -thanks 2greys
Every little helps. Having had Norovirus once this year I hope I don't get it again as it took nearly a month to get over. And it is very difficult to carry out the precautions after you get the bug to eliminate the virus when you are so weak from its effects. Its difficult when you have to keep attending hospital and other crowded places to putting yourself at risk. Fingers crossed we all stay well without contracting this aweful virus. Keep warm all.
My mum's got a sanitizer thingymebob on the wall- but it has always been empty when we've visited! Thinks it's a cost saving thing as the head GP drives a massive brand new range rover!
I always have a little bottle of hand sanitizer with me ,while I was waiting in the toilet at a supermarket,I was surprised the amount of women who don't wash there hands ,which I always do,also when I come home the first thing I do is wash my hands.
I am so scared of having another chest infection, that I have to make sure my mouth and nose is covered up when travelling by bus 😟
Our surgery has hand sanitiser on the wall next to the check in screen. I always use it especially on my way out. I also carry little bottles in my bags. My daughter, who is a teacher has a small bottle that she has round her neck with her ID etc. Children are massive spenders of germs!!
I went to rheumatology today and the nurse taking bloods was full of a cold, I couldnt believe it, I told her that I have bronchiectasis and am due to have an op next Thursday as well as having no immunity being on methotrexate, she said well its the way things are and I'll try not to breathe on you. I put a tissue over my nose to breathe in (I also use nasal guard) and headed straight for the gel on the wall when I came out, was really thankful it was there. Neither my doctor nor dentist have this x

"Did you know? Alcohol hand gels DON’T kill #norovirus. If you’re visiting loved ones in a hospital or care home make sure you’re not unwell - and wash your hands with soap and water before going in #ThinkNORO bit.ly/norovirusSW"
I have hand cleanser in my house,in my back pack, and in my car.
Wear a scarf to keep my neck warm in this cold damp weather.
My wife says I’m Paranoid, but there is a reason for all these things I do.
Lat year 218-2019 I had 3 chest infections which floored me,and depressed me.had three doses of antibiotics but I think I was so weak from my first attack my body could not cope.
Thankfully I have recovered and are thinking positive.
One small thing,I was in a pub with friends (I honestly hardly drink) and visited the loo as one does.
Noticed a guy came in and left without washing his hands, there was plenty of soap cleanser and hot and cold water, unforgivable.
Watch yourselves out there.
