Some people 'genetically wired' to avoid some vegetables.

Hate eating certain vegetables? It could be down to your genes, say US scientists who have done some new research.

Inheriting two copies of the unpleasant taste gene provides a "ruin-your-day level of bitterness" to foods like broccoli and sprouts, they say.

It could explain why some people find it difficult to include enough vegetables in their diet, they suggest.

Never had a Research for Vegetables when I was a Lass, You ate them, or go Hungry and have them the next day, Right down to Drinking the Cabbage Water, As My Mum said full of Iron, so Drink it. So Our Genes have only been Discovered in the Last "Few" Years. These Researches should be looking into "NUT" Allergy and "WHY" so many Children have it ? Just my Opinion. Still love you to share these US "Statements". Love n hugs 2gs, XXX C.

I’ve read something similar in the past. To me Brussels sprouts, cabbage and broccoli taste sweet. Strangely, things that are sweet, or that other people tell me are sweet, I find sharp and end up putting heaps of sugar on 🤔

I have have always thought that i have genes from the mediterranean ancestor . I do not like carrots and root veg but live on broccoli, peas, green beans and onions. I don't like apples very much but eat lots of grapes and peaches etc when available. So are these genes linked to any specific area? I have 2 sisters , one has like tastes, the other opposite tastes and always serves carrots ,! So different genes as we all had to eat the limited diet available in the war years, -1939 to 45 and for quite a few years after. We had to eat what was on the plate and, not leave any!

2greys, I love veggies, I am a vegan. Never, have I liked or cared for any meat. Once or twice a year I will eat salmon. Wonder if I have a gene that is makes me not like meat!!

Take care, stay well and warm!!

I recently said to one of my daughters whilst shopping,"I fancy some brussel sprouts ". She laughed and said " said no person ever" !!😂 However,I do love sprouts! Also, broccoli, spring cabbage, dwarf beans, and cauliflower. I hate sweet potatoes, carrots and parsnips,in fact, the sweet tasting veg. I was the only child at school dinners who asked for seconds of cabbage!😀

I like sprouts too. I live mainly on Wiltshire Farm Foods and was pleased if not delighted to find they include them in some meals, all year round. And they don't go soggy either.

I love Brussels sprouts too. It’s a happy day when they’re back in the shop. Frozen ones are ok but they’re not the same. My sheep also love Brussels sprouts, but not frozen ones. So we’re all happy now 😊 🐑
