For older adults, being physically active is an important part of overall good health. In fact, experts say that nine percent of all premature deaths are caused by not getting enough physical activity. Physical activity is known to reduce deaths from heart disease, diabetes, chronic lung disease, and mental illness.

I AGREE COMPLETELY, We all know exercise is so good for our bodies and mind! We also know that smoking is deadly! Unfortunately it takes something really major to make us realize this. Fortunately I never wanted to smoke even though I was brought up in a house of heavy smokers. My father had pleurisy three times during the war when he was in Belgium. Being a heavy smoker as well, he was eventually diagnosed with lung cancer at the young age of 48. I just wish there was an easier way of giving up smoking as my mother also died of smoking related cancer. She just couldn't give it up and paid the ultimate price - her life!

I can honestly say that my small walking group of friends don't always feel like going on a regular walk, but are encouraged by the other members to come. We all feel so much better afterwards and enjoy our lunch and chat!. It's making the effort that counts, I know it helps me.

We know exercise is important.Tell that to my body when it has infection after infection and getting out of bed and going to make a cup of tea is all it wants to do at the moment.

I am certainly feeling the effects of not being able to exercise for 3 weeks due to this long Exacerbation taking hold of my Physical well being. My Head, My Heart says "Do it" but my Body won't respond, I will get back to my Breathe Easy Exercise Classes as soon as The Body can do it, It will be a slow climb back, Once you stop, it takes a long struggle to get back to a Good Fitness Level as I have always been Positive and have fought to Control my COPD. Now I have started taking Oramorph, as from yesterday, hopefully my Breathing will become easier along with having my Oxygen. I know I can't rush this, but Oh, how I yearn to get my Fitness back. I can only but Try. Love to everyone. Carolina XXX

Hence my eagerness to get back to work, knowing the longer I leave it the harder it will be. The knack is finding the right balance with recovery, which is why I have opted to work longer than half a day but for less days to start with.

I think the only good thing about living alone is that you have to get up and out to do the shopping etc as there is nobody else to do it, this forces me when I know I would sit around x
