No breathlessness but diagnosed as copd.

My first posting here. has been following this forum for 3 years... Many supportive people here.

I have NO breathlessness, but still diagnosed as COPD by 2 respiratory specialists since 2014. Has been on various inhalers, Seretide, incruse etc.

PFTs test Mar this year...FEV1 88%, FVC89%. SPO2 - 98/99.

CT scan, X-Ray also normal six months ago.

I believe my lungs are normal. Even did a 6 min walk/jog test last week...could covered 680m.

But main problem is coughing mucus daily.

Anyone with similar experience. I am 71 years old male.

Comments appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

To be perfectly honest, this does not surprise me with a diagnosis of very mild, I have a friend that is in exactly the same position. I did not suffer until diagnosed with my Emphysema until at the severe stage. If you smoke then you must quit to slow the progression down to normal degradation levels. You are very lucky, no extremely lucky, to be diagnosed this early. There is so much you can do to improve your life and actually die from old age only without suffering from breathlessness.

If you dont have symptoms jogbuddy, I dont understand why you are on inhalers - unless that's the reason why you dont get symptoms! Though maybe you're not on them now as yo say you have been on them.

As 2G says, you are indeed very lucky. I was dxd at mid-level moderate partly due to symptoms being masked by having had asthma for years. Many dont get dxd until they are moderate so count yourself lucky and keep exercising and particularly try to keep clear of viruses which can cause flare-ups and make you worse. Take care.

Fev1 of 88% is very good. I do feel many doctors automatically put people of a certain age on inhalers rather than just prescribing a blue ( ventolin) inhaler to have at hand should they become breathless . I buy NAC and take twice daily to keep mucus off my lungs. Good luck with the Dr and ask whatever you need to know ( especially why you are being given inhalers). Hope to hear how you got on. Cx

I don't get breathless, but I'm moderate/severe and produce a lot of thin mucous. My consultant is keen on inhalers to prevent the condition getting worse - might be the same with yours, ie to prevent symptoms in the long term.

Hi jogbuddy. I am in a similar position to you. Coughing ( and coughing and coughing) is my main symptom. I get tight chested occasionally and exertion produces a mild breathlessness but I am still diagnosed with COPD. We are all different.
