Hi Tilantoe,

Yes I have been using my BiPAP machine since January 2018 for oxygen retention, I also use oxygen 15 hours a day and ambulatory oxygen on exertion.

I was diagnosed with Type II Respiratory Failure in April 2017 and was originally on oxygen 24/7, but since being on BiPAP I have had my oxygen reduced to 15 hours a day and I have also completed a 10 week course of Pulmonary Rehabilitation, which I still do twice a week at home now, I also use an exercise bike every day.

Using BiPAP has completely changed my life for the better, it can be daunting to use at first, but now I don’t even think about it, before using it I used to struggle to stay awake in the morning and I used to have tremors and headaches due to oxygen retention and all these can be fatal.

Regards,

Ian.

Yes my husband has had one for about a year now. He has emphysema and retains carbon dioxide. The nippy removes the carbon dioxide that he retains so he feels better. He is not on oxygen. Like Ian says it takes a bit of getting used to but he now has no trouble and in fact as well as using it at night he also uses it during the day if he gets very breathless. I have some concerns about him becoming too dependent on it especially as he has it in his bedroom and spends a lot of time lying on his bed using it.

He has been advised to use Oramorph more frequently for his breathlessness. Will ask the consultant at his next appointment which is best.

Good luck with yours

Corin

Hi yes I use a nippy for going out. I have the normal bipap machines for in the house but the nippy is portable so family can take me out. I had been completely housebound until I got this machine so has definitely improved my life. We do need to take 2oxygen cyclinders when we go as I am also on 4 litres of oxygen 24 hours and I need to use the bipap machine no less than 18 hours. Before this I was in and out of hospital every week to have the carbon dioxide blown off and there machines were horrible. Since using this haven’t had any admissions for retention at all.

Hi Tilantoe

I have been using a Nippy Bipap since January due to respiratory failure type 2 with chronic co2 retention. It has made much more of a difference than I thought it would. It is definitely different than the hospital machine which I found distressing. It’s now just part of my daily routine. I do find it dries out my nose and sinuses get blocked, so I purchased a heated humidifier to attach to it and that makes it much more comfortable.

I hope you find it works for you and soon see the benefits.

Best wishes
