To make life easier.

fidgetandscooter profile image

To get my mobility scooter, henceforth known as the Beast ( ! ) I have to reverse out of my garage and down a quite steep slope to get to the pavement. I have not felt comfortable doing this, especially if I have Fidget in toe. So I am getting a turntable to make life easier. There is a company fairly close to me that make bespoke ones. It's also not as expensive as I thought it would be, although it is not cheap!

Hi

Should reverse up the slope into garage, then your are facing correct way on departure.

Reversing down a slope on a mobility scooter risk tipping over, if you have to stop suddenly.

It's just as difficult to reverse up into the garage. That is why I am getting the turntable, so I can drive in frontwards and then drive out frontwards.

I like that scooter! I thought that maybe you reversed out of your garage down a slope, which would make reversing in pretty difficult? 🙁

I have reversed out of the garage and I can't say that I am that keen because my drive is concrete with a grass strip down the middle. Hence it has dips and furrows making it quite precarious. I prefer going forward!!!

Love it,easy rider springs to mind, hoping that Fidget can keep up with you as you do wheelies down the street, perhaps an additional doggie sidecar upgrade could be on the cards.:)

I hate to be a killjoy, but when I bought my scooter it came with a scooter highway code. According to that it's against the law to have a dog on a lead with a mobility scooter so best you get the trailer. Keep smiling

I know someone who does agility on the scooter with her dogs. I know they are off the lead, but they are on the lead when she walks them. I wasn't given a highway code!!!!!

There is a nice fold up one on the market should you fancy that. ??

simbanine profile image

They are heavier and more cumbersome than we were lead to believe. Anyone got any answers for EASY transportation of a scooter by car?

syntax in reply tosimbanine

I do have electric scooter, and as you know, will not go

in car.So have bought a fold up push one for boot.It has

the large wheels at back. Not saying it is good for all but

works for me. The dogs sit on spare wheel on back seat,

then they can see where we are going.

in reply tosimbanine

I have a small scooter which breaks into 4 main parts for transportation in the boot, but as you say, it's still VERY heavy! There's no way I can lift it, so my SO has to go everywhere with me to lift it in/out, as I can't walk more than a few steps, even though I can still drive safely! I'm awaiting the arrival of a new, bigger buggy, but it means I have to sell my car and get a different vehicle that can transport it long distance....

However, there are quite a few vehicle adaptations you can get for a smaller scooter. You could use a ramp...

i.e. safetyshop.com/3-4-wheeled-...

or you can get a hoist fitted in your vehicle...

i.e. youtube.com/watch?v=JKLXK-l...

Motorbility can probably give you all the help and information you need.

Good luck.

I used to ride a bike so have never had a car. I am very lucky that friends will give me a lift occasionally.

in reply tosimbanine

Have a look at my reply to syntax, below...? 🙂

in reply to

Sorry fidgetandscooter. I read your messages out of context?

I think a folding scooter ,or one that breaks down, may be your only option if you're travelling in someone else's car? Even then, not all cars can accommodate one, and not all friends can lift one! 🤔

fidgetandscooter in reply to

If someone gives me a lift I have a fold up wheelchair that we sling in the back of the car!!!

What about a small dog cart - perfect! 👌😊

Oh I can see it now!! Fidget dragging me over flower beds and anywhere that there is something good to sniff. He would stop, start, stop start...... Conjures up a good comedy, but I love the idea though.

in reply tofidgetandscooter

You'd have to put blinkers on him! 😂
