Parliament fight update

Thanks to your support, Asthma UK has secured a meeting with the Government Minister in charge of prescription charges – Baroness Blackwood.

We intend to put our case to her – but we won’t be able to do it without your help.

We want to tell Baroness Blackwood why you want to stop unfair asthma prescription charges. If you have a story to share, please email; policy@asthma.org.uk.

My daughter was first diagnosed at 3 years old. Over the years she as had a number of bad episodes. At present she is working as an apprentice at a chemist. Her wage is very poor and without support from myself she would struggle to finish the two years. She is on four prescription medications. Two for arthritis two for asthma. That's 36 pounds a month! On top of that she also requires other medications at times. I have brought her a yearly card from the NHS. I think the point is at times young people have very limited finances and often have hard choices to make. Do I eat or do I take a risk and not get my medications.

Thats what it is about getting them to listen. We attended a meeting this week about community care and should be going to house of lords later this year. Another case for making them listen. Good luck with the cause I am with you all the way as my family & I are asthmatic and don't all get free prescriptions.

I had a petition e mailed me and then I posted it and ever since I have been posting updates I am receiving to let everyone know what is going, we are being listened to and trying to change this. I am glad for a forum like this to stand United in fighting this. I hope the MP's will do the right thing and make asthma and COPD medication free for everyone
