Flare up?

I went to doctor's about ongoing cough she said it was a flare up. My phlegm was clear and oxygen levels were ok. She said my lungs were rattling. I don't understand how my signs are ok but still a flare up. Has anyone had same problem.

What is your condition? Are you asthmatic? Have you sent a sputum sample in for microbiology?

I have emphysema haven't had sputum tested.

Your lungs can get iratated by all sorts of fumes ect, so can inflame and produce exses mucus and become wezey and rattely, Without becoming infected. Usualy in my case steriods but no antibiotics. I hope you are feeling better soon

Hi panda22 yes about 2 months ago I was just the same an out of control cough thought I was going to pass out. When the nurse came around I told her ..when you take your inhalers do you rinse and gargle said it wasn't enough. Best to take just before breakfast the food would clear the back of the throat better from any residue from inhalers.

My cough is 95percent better such a relief best of luck.

There are times when just the steroids are needed if there is definitely no infection. I know I struggle with understanding when to take both the steroids and ABs. But if your gp has checked you over perhaps it is a matter of “ wait and see” for a few more days, especially if you are feeling ok in yourself.
