Happy Motoring in the 60's.

โ€ข40 Replies

Riding in the motorcar in the 1960s

Listening to the radio on the BBC.

Passing lovely countryside

How pleasant that can be.

Cliff Adams and his singers,

What a lovely sound,

Singing something simple,

Turn the volume loud.

I find it so relaxing

And just want to hear more.

But if my kids in the back don't shush

I'll throw them through the door!!

Absolutely. And the grumpy gardener. (Mont-something?) And Hugo the black sheep of the family.

Do you remember an early soap called โ€˜The Rowan Treeโ€™? That was one of Margaretโ€™s favourites and we planted one at the front of the house. It has become big now and the birds really appreciate it for the mass of berries each year.

Oh Don reminds me of nights in with my mother ironing and listening to the radio. Long gone are all those good times. Hope you are well and happy today x

Thanks Don

Took me right back to my childhood. Lovely warm memories of happiness and my mum both of us singing along.

Nothing to do with radio, but I stumbled upon an old English comedy, Are you being served? I remember my mum mentioning it when I was a child. It is so different from comedy in this day and age. xx ๐Ÿ˜‚

โ€ข in reply toCaspiana

That was a TV comedy series, very popular but a bit too silly for my taste. I like my humour to have a bit of sharp wit about it and โ€˜Are you being servedโ€™ was a bit short in that department.. ๐Ÿ˜‰xx

This is strange...The sixties brought us another British Invasion...4 cmop head youngsters, Paul, Ringo, John and George, who absolutely blew us away! The Beatles! ๐Ÿ˜Š

We didn't have a radio for a long time. Much singing from the back seat instead! Your way sounds much more relaxing! xx Moy

โ€ข in reply toMoyB

Itโ€™s hard to imagine now but in the early days of motoring cars didnโ€™t have radios or heaters fitted. In winter you needed heavy coats mufflers gloves and a woolly hats. What must it have been like having what we now call COPD in those days? I suppose most of us would be dead, so be grateful. โ„๏ธโ˜ƒ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜€

We still 'enjoy' motoring like that, Don. My husband has a 1932 Austin 7 and a 1954 A30 so we have a few cold outings! We used to have an open topped Austin Chummy and I had to wear lots of extra clothes in that one! It was lovely in the summer but not so great in winter. I find the cars a bit 'fumy' if you know what I mean. I'm sure the fumes can't be good for my chest, but I put up with it for the sake of marital harmony. Haha!

xx Moy

โ€ข in reply toMoyB

Arenโ€™t you lucky having a husband with taste. ๐Ÿ˜‰ My very first car was a 1929 Austin Chummy, minus a hood. I frighten my mate once by overfilling the petrol tank which splashed petrol onto the hot engine resulting in clouds of steam around me with my pipe in my mouth. ๐Ÿฅบ My first posh car was a 1936 Rover 14hp with a free wheel gearbox which I loved driving in mountainous country. ๐Ÿ˜€

And if you did have a radio in the car, you needed a separate licence for it...! ๐Ÿค”
