Hi everyone

Can anybody enlighten me on what the sleep study is. I’ve just received an appointment to have some equipment fixed so they can monitor me whilst I’m sleeping. Does anyone know anything about this equipment? Thanks Julie x

Hi Julie,

They will probably send you what is a pulse oximeter which is attached to wrist monitor like this: eu-pap.co.uk/detailed-in-ho..., you will be told to put it on when go to bed and turn it on, you then wear it through the night and turn it off when you get up in the morning, if you wake to use the bathroom through the night though you leave it on.

You may also get a form to fill in, asking how you slept, you then return it to the clinic the same day, it is nothing to worry about, I'm on BiPAP for oxygen retention and have to do them about three times a year.

I hope that is of some help Ian.

Hi Ian, thanks for this. I’m thinking it’s something that’s attached to me as I have to go to our local hospital to have it fitted and they have asked me to wear a tight tee shirt so they can fit it over ??

Then, yes I have to have it back to hospital before 10 the next morning, jeez that’ll be the day 😊

Well we will see then I have to have an echocardiogram following this I think. No rest for the wicked eh?

Hi Julie,

I did that test as well, it's similar to the one I described, but you also wear a little pack on your body and that attaches to your nostrils like a oxygen cannula, if you already sleep with oxygen you wear that as well, it's a bit weird to sleep wearing, but it's only for one night. 😉

Good luck Ian.

Omg Ian I’ll be trussed up like a thanksgiving turkey for gods sake. What must be done must be done I suppose. One night isn’t so bad is it?
