Has anyone experience of using an oxygen concentrator with a humidifier as we had problems with drying out of the airways with an oxygen concentrator as the oxygen stream is completely dry?

Hi

If you are in the U.K. and using a static concentrator then speak to your oxygen provider, they will fit a Humidifier to the unit.

Typical type. Scroll to bottom.click ancillary items.

I notice that on air Liquide site they do not show the Biflow mask. For anyone who wants to try or use them they do supply them. I find them very useful as I don’t get on too well with a cannula. Barbs x

U.S. Oxygen supplies will fit a humidifier unit onto your at home concentrator. Very simple , and it works well, judg69

Our COPD nurse suggested my husband, who is on oxygen 24x7, had a humidifier fitted to his concentrator. It’s just a small plastic bottle attached by tubing to the front of the concentrator. He had been suffering from occasional nose bleeds and acute dryness of mouth and the humidifier certainly seems to have sorted these problems out. It does mean more work for the carer though as I have to clean and refill the water bottle every day. You must only use pure de-ionised water or similar which I purchase from Halfords. The leaflet says we should be able to get the water on prescription but I’m still battling with the surgery on this! Might seem a small cost to some but it gets through about half a pint a day plus the travel costs to Halfords. But the important thing is that the humidifier makes things much more comfortable for my husband.
