Eugenie married Jack today

And did it with aplomb.

We didn't get an invite,

But it cost us all a bomb!

I thought it was a beautiful day, nice to watch two very happy people so much in love.😍 Bernadette xx

It may have been a beautiful day for the ninth in line for the throne however the homeless people sleeping rough on the streets of Windsor probably did not appreciate being moved on by council workers and police - shame all that taxpayers money didn't help to alleviate some of their problems......

Exactly what I was thinking majii. We clearly all not in it together! x

Sadly I doubt we have ever "all been in it together" Hypercat (apart from the last war, in theory at least) - the gaps just keeps on growing .....

yes we do sassy we can choose who we vote for in an election and next time it is pretty clear that there is a clear choice maybe not on royalty per se but certainly on closing the gap xxx

Mmmm I’ll ponder on that one undine but doubt any government would be much good. Take care xxxx

I Didn't watch it, I love our Queen and Royal members that work for the People. I do not like the overspill that Takes and never seem to Give. Thanks Don xxx.

Oh dear. Do yours cost the taxpayer as much? x

Caspiana profile image

Factually, the cost of the Japanese imperial royal family comes to approximately 247 million pounds a year. Per head, they cost almost twice as much as the British royals.

Wow that's a lot. Does no one mind paying it? x

Well, people are by and large pragmatic. There has never really been any fuss about what they cost. Perhaps, looking at the bigger picture, they have their own burdens just as we have ours. I suppose live and let live is most people's attitude. I think the current emperor is very popular and well loved for his soft spoken and humble demeanour. He will abdicate in April to make way for his son. The first abdication in 200 years.

£2.2 million is what I heard

And us taxpayers footed the bill

This is clearly quite absurd

When they are cutting benefits for the ill!

Tax payers did not pay for the wedding they paid for the security. Also when Donald Trump came here taxpayers paid for his security at double the cost.

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45746452 -

quite a few facts and figures from the BBC as to Windsor costs - and as for Trump he should never have been invited to this country in the first place!

As I see it, it was an invitation to ‘The President of the USA’ , who happens to be Trump (currently).

I think the fact that Eugenie had her dress designed so that the scar, the length of her spine which is a result of her Scoliosis being operated on as a child, is to be commended. She wore her scar with pride so that must surely help other people with scars not feel they have to try and hide them. I would think it is also a thank you from her to the surgeons and everyone associated with her operation when she was a child, and must help people who have scoliosis now and their parents. Well done Eugenie.

I wonder how many children are in pain on the NHS waiting list to have a similar operation done? £2.2 million would pay for quite a lot to have it done immediately and privately like Euguene did.

Don, I understand that no invitation to visit has previously been offered by a British PM to any President quite so early in the Presidency - we usually wait to find out if the new Potus is missing any marbles .......

in reply tomajji

They probably thought it best to fix an early date since both have an uncertain future. 🙄
