Order pends what you are having done I asked to stay awake for my ops but they refused and if you have copd I honestly don’t think they will put you under because of your breathing problems I am not saying they won’t

You can have valves fitted or the more invasive LVRS .I'm having LVRS on the 8 th Oct and I'm approaching 71 years old I have to go to London hospital ,I live on the south coast, but my local hospital don't do this big opportunity .( LVRS).They will cut a good proportion of my lung out ( the emphysema) then the good part can work properly .I'm excited but also anxious .I've had severe COPD for 15 years and the last 18 months to 2 years have been a struggle .I hope this information you what you need to know .

Best wishes Babs

I had two valves implanted in my left lung, under anaesthetic. Lung volume reduction is also a possibility, if you'd survive the anaesthesia. Transplants are a bit more unlikely at your age. I missed that boat, too.

Hi, probably a bit late with a response but there are treatments out there that you can still have at your age depending on your general health otherwise.

People have had lung reductions, lung valves, lung coils and even stem cell treatments, you have various options but you will need to carry out some research. I have done much research but have deleted much of it as nothing is open to me as I have a cancer so I've got no further options to explore.

Go get the info, but do be prepared to travel both in the UK and outside. One of the best UK hospitals to start with is The Royal Brompton, also as a tip look out for "Trials". It's an interesting journey but the information is out there. Be careful of Swiss based clinics, often it is just a room and the real clinic is in Ukrain or Russia.

4 valves recently, Still on Transplant List for Double Lung. That means keep doing what I'm doing at 66 soon to be 67, married to a Younger man , Hubby is 50 Just. Well I'll carry on with or without a Transplant. I am Positive and very Happy, so maybe I'm just a Lucky old Bird. XXXXX

Have you ever smoked how do valves help your breathing it sounds like you have incredible strength to keep going I could do with some of your strength to get me back to something like normal

We did talk the other day Hun. Yes I smoked, I stopped nearly 4 years ago, Breathing got easier without the cigs. I'm level 4 Severe. Just Have a Positive attitude, Good Diet, Exercise as Much as You Can. Rehab helped me enormously . Valves have helped me not to gasp for Breath anymore, I hope they continue to be my Friends. Plan Ahead . That's it. Good Luck.
