Reading newspaper is harmful ????

For 26 years I worked in a local newspaper office, which dealt with three main newspapers. All those years I never had a problem with the paper or the print. I now find, I cannot read or hold a newspaper or it makes me wheeze and become breathless. Anyone else experience this ???? Strange x Sorry I forgot to mention I suffer with COPD. x

Don't often read a newspaper but I have noticed that some of them give off fumes so perhaps that is what is causing your reaction.

Hi

No problem with news print, but do have issues with coloured magazines and pamphlets, acts as a trigger some more so than others seems worse when they are wrapped in plastic envelope.when opened the odour can be stifling.

Most of the news these days is enough to take your breath away!

Paper Allergy

"Consider using an air purifier which can filter the allergens in your room whenever you read a newspaper to reduce the dust when flipping the newspaper."

I would also think that paper dust could also cause problems not forgetting that a lot of paper also contains cotton fibers, which is also thought to cause COPD amongst workers in the rag trade

For me its reading / listening to the news that's harmful to health, online digital, on tv etc.

I've not bought a newspaper for over 30 years probably so wouldn't know about the print but I suspect it would irritate the lungs, people working in printing use nasty chemicals so it is a health hazard but then there are many trades with such risks.

Dang, I worked in a newspaper newsroom for 38 years and now have COPD. But also smoked. Never really considered my work environment as a possible contributor.

Although many people think that newspapers are harmless, bet not many know you can get paper fleas and paper mites. As you, I also worked in the newsroom, but we were surrounded by newspapers and newspaper files every minute. Never gave it a thought, until myself and my husband have recently started to buy a paper every day for a while. I would get half way through the paper and then could feel it was affecting me. I also smoked, as many working in that industry did, trying to beat deadlines, made you that way LOL!!!!!, However, I gave up smoking 15 years ago, and thought that would help the rest of my life. x
