I'm sure you must be going through a turmoil of emotions, but you seem to be quite positive about things. I hope you can keep on with that attitude and get some good results very soon, Please don't forget that you don't have to carry this alone, the people here will always be here for you and I hope you have some good family and friends around to support you. I am really sorry to hear you have developed lung cancer, stay strong and positive. I know something about all the thoughts going through your mind, having been/still am, there myself with lung cancer this year. Keep as calm as you can, fretting about it will not do you any favours, anxiety and stress will only serve to make your breathing worse and weaken your immune system. There are several treatment options. Your Oncologist will go through those options with you and advise you of the best option for your case.

Hopefully you will learn the type and stage of the cancer next week and a treatment plan worked out for you. I hope too that the tumours are not in the areas that are still actively involved with gas exchange and like mine was, in the dead zones already destroyed by emphysema. Let us know how you get on. If you are uncomfortable discussing things on the open forum then you can always private message me as somebody in the same boat and I will do my best to help.

Thank you, I think they have found this very early and they are close to the edge which they say is good for operating on, all depends on the bioosys which determ the grade, they did show me a 2016 chest xray and they wernt there and they say it's not spread and not in my lymohnodes.

1968, as one who has also been through the wringer with lung cancer treatments, surgical lobectomy , and now 6 years later cancer possibly back again, I totally concur with 2Greys. Worry and anxiety are both useless and can actually worsen one's condition. Do not jump to any conclusions. Do get the appropriate tests done and together with your Doctor's develop and implement an action plan . A level head and positive attitude are essential to success and recovery. You have a great attitude and I am sure will get the best possible results from your treatment plan. All Best Wishes, judg69

So sorry that the results of your CT scan were not what you hoped for but on a positive note your little granddaughter will keep you motivated and give you the strength to fight this horrendous disease. Keep your chin up and only positive thoughts go through your mind.

I am sorry that you are going through this. I had 2 tumors in my left lung 5 years ago. A chest x-ray in October 2012 was clear, another in May 2013 showed a 2 cm nodule, a month later when I had the surgery, there were 2 of them. I lost my upper left lobe, but along with it, the cancer. I just had a second surgery to remove the upper left lobe for cancer, but again it had not spread beyond the lobe.

I am glad they are rushing you through to see a cancer specialist.

Salks profile image
Salks in reply toFeelingblessed2013

Just read your post. I too am looking at upper left lobe removal. Can you tell me how this affected your breathing.

Feelingblessed2013 profile image
Feelingblessed2013 in reply toSalks

Everyone is different, but once I was healed I did not see any difference in my breathing.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, I will do my best to answer them.

Salks profile image
Salks in reply toFeelingblessed2013

Thank you for your reply. My nodule was spotted 2 months ago and they have tried to take biopsies from bronchoscopy and from ct guided needle biopsy but failed both times so they say it’s probably lung cancer and they want to remove my left upper lobe. I’m really reluctant to go ahead with this without proof because they say I will lose 25% of lung function and as I have bronchiecasis it’s only 80% now, so a reduction to 55% sounds frightening! I had pet scan 2 weeks ago and everything else was clear. Did you have any other lung problems before surgery?

Murray58 profile image
Murray58 in reply toSalks

I went into surgery for a left lower lung biopsy and lobectomy if cancer found. It was cancer and I woke up without that lobe. I had asthma and COPD and Fev1 of about 76%. That was July 2015 and I still have the same Fev 1. PS. Many congratulations on your first granddaughter

Salks profile image
Salks in reply toMurray58

Thank you for your reply it does make me feel slightly less concerned about quality of life after Lobectomy. Did you have keyhole or open chest surgery?

Murray58 profile image
Murray58 in reply toSalks

I had keyhole. Was out of hospital in the third day and was told I would find going upstairs and carrying shopping more difficult. Actually it did take some weeks to recover from the op but my breathing was fine and I was surprised. Started walking gently and short distances and built it up quite quickly. But like the old piano playing joke I couldn’t run a marathon before the op and couldn’t now either.

Murray58 profile image
Murray58 in reply toMurray58

Woke up from op with no pain. Did develop some from the chest drain site and as couldn’t take morphine as pain relief as it makes me nauseous Tramadol became my best friend after which I was ok.

Salks profile image
Salks in reply toMurray58

I’m having my op on 18th December so hope I recover as quickly as you in time for Christmas. Thank you for your support

Murray58 profile image
Murray58 in reply toSalks

Wishing you all the best for the 18th. Let us know how it went when you can. Maybe full recovery by Christmas is optimistic. I had to rest up for a good two weeks feeling pretty weak but not much longer than that before I started getting stronger. Don’t underestimate needing some support during recovery.

Feelingblessed2013 profile image
Feelingblessed2013 in reply toSalks

Yes, I have mild emphysema. I look at it this way, when they removed the now 2 lobes, they also removed some of the emphysema.

They never tried to biopsy before surgery either time. The surgeon told me he would remove the tumor and send it for biopsy, if it came back negative, he would close me up and be done. If positive, he would remove that lobe. Needless to say, it was positive and I woke up without that lung lobe. I am down to 3 now and just came home from my pulmonologist's office, during the 6 min walk test my O2 did not go lower than 93%. Sitting down it went back up to 100%.

Thank you for taking the trouble to reply to me again. It really helps to gleen as much information as possible. Going to see surgeon on Friday - gosh it’s scary!

Feelingblessed2013 in reply toSalks

I agree, it's scary, but you will get through it. Keep in touch, let me know how the appointment goes on Friday. Also, in case no one has thought to mention this; might be a good idea to go to appt. with a written list of questions. It is also a good idea to have someone go with you if at all possible, just to have a second set of ears.

Salks profile image
Salks in reply toFeelingblessed2013

Will do, thank you.

Salks profile image
Salks in reply toFeelingblessed2013

Hi KatherineK. Just to let you know I’m having my op on 18th Dec. It seems I now have 2 modules and they say at Harefield that they will probably be unable to biopsy them both without destroying most of the lobe but said they will try. So I’m sure I shall wake up without it. Thank you again for your support

Salks profile image
Salks in reply toFeelingblessed2013

Just to let you know my op was delayed 3 times and I finally had it last Tuesday. It was cancer so lost my upper left lobe. I had a rotten time. The morphine sent me slightly mad. They had to give me antidotes. Also the spinal block didn’t work so woke up in terrible pain. But as you said I got through it and have just got home. Amazing how much better home makes you feel!

Feelingblessed2013 profile image
Feelingblessed2013 in reply toSalks

I am glad you are home, now you can rest and heal.

One surgery I had (unrelated to cancer) they had me on morphine, it made me hallucinate. I can't even handle delaudid.

When I lost my upper left lobe, I was home in 3 days. I agree, it is absolutely amazing how much better you feel once you're home.

I wish you all the best with the course of treatment you choose. Do the research and plan, the right foods will help A LOT! The right combination of meds— I recommend researching CBD and THC along with all alternative meds that can help you with COMFORT( your new key word) comfort, comfort.✌️Be with you
