Heat ..

Hi my friends.. last night was one of the worst nights I have had in a long long time.. no matter how many fans I had on myself, the heat seemed to get more and more intense. At one point I felt there was no air going in and no air coming out!.. how are you all coping with this weather and what do you feel is the best way to stay cool?..

Hi,

Terrible last night wasn't it.

As well as the fan, I use a wet flannel and use it to cool pulse points (neck, wrists, inside elbows -can't reach down to do lower body due to breathlessness).

I'm very lucky that my husband helps me a lot so I don't need to be to active during the heat.

Like everyone else all activity in this heat is exhausting.

My main problem is the heat making me feel sick. I'm sipping water a lot, drinking more than a very small glassful at once is making me gag.

I'm waiting for the weather to cool and some good summer rain.

I hope you feel better today xx

I live in sub-tropical Queensland and recommend sucking ice cubes as needed when it is hot, not water. You need to keep fluids up in the heat, as you know. Tepid showers are useful too, especially just before you go to bed at night.

Pete isn’t doing too much and we go out early if we need to but then stay home. It’s very hard to keep cool though but frequent drinking and a slight breeze help.

Our daughter in law brought Pete a small hand held fan and that helps too.

It’s just got to rain soon hasn’t it? Xxxx 😘

If I had the energy or breath I’d do a bloody rain dance for us all!..

I have a good friend who also has COPD . It helps to talk to someone who understands what you are going through, that is why this site is so important. It lets us know that we are not alone. The other benefit is that you can learn so much from others who have walked the same path. We can help each other be ause we know this illness better than any doctor or health professional.

STAY COOL EVERYONE. ❤️

Try sitting with your feet in a bowl of cold water (even add ice) that will soon cool you right down. Works for me, very well.

When I lived in a hot climate I had a zen fountain in my bedroom (I must have a photo of it somewhere) which had about 10 spiralling levels and pebbles at the bottom. I don’t know if it was psychological or if it actually was cooling but I liked it anyway, hearing the sounds of a waterfall and sometimes holding my fingers under the falling water, or rearranging the pebbles at the bottom.

I'm putting in a heat pump the air conditioner and fans isn't working good enough in this heat.. The humidity is up high so you need a good unit ended up in the mall and going to the movies to get out of this heat.... Fans just won't work....
