Is it safe to sleep with windows open all during night when you have bronchiectasis /asthma? just wondering if cold air could cause breathing problems! Any advice very welcome.. Thank you.

Yes it’s fine. I have both and if I am in hospital I love the windows open - best way to get rid of folks bugs.

Thank you cofdrop-UK, so happy I can now open windows as sometimes I have to get up during night & walk around for a while as I was absolutely boiling, neighbor had said her husband had asthma &had to keep all windows closed. Thank you again cofdrop, your reply has made me feel much better already & has been a real Godsend to me.

If you don't want to keep your windows open all night why not get a fan and put it on your bedside cabinet? I do that and keep mine on all night.

I won't open windows too late coz spiders come in more then - yuck... x

Advice for people with asthma is to keep windows closed because of the pollen but I have mine open and find it helps me to be cooler. I also have a fan going.

It depends on what type of asthma you have and the kind of environment you live in. If your asthma is extrinsic (the allergic type) and you live in an area where there is a lot of pollen then it might be best to keep the windows closed closed at night. The same could apply if you live in a polluted area e.g. near a main road. You will know yourself if having a window open is causing problems with your asthma.

Hi I-chop, I have the windows open everynight unless it is really cold, it feels too stuffy otherwise, but I am lucky that I dont live on a main road, think I would move if I did . As cofdrop says it helps to kill of the germs and we all want those little blighters gone. Irene x

Hi I-chop, I have asthma and C.O.P.D. In the summer I keep the windows closed in the day to help minimise pollen and pollutants and as the sun shines into the window most of the day keep the curtains closed to help minimise the heat. At night I have the windows open, it depends how you are. Try it one time and see how you get on. But I rarely have them open in the winter as the cold and damp can play havoc with my chest.

Just been on a cruise to Iceland temp was 11°C at best and only suffered one asthma attack caused by an idiot puffing out clouds of vapour from an e-cig, this was in an arctic fox centre as well. Went whale watching and was windblown and walked nearly 39 miles in 13 days. My friend is also asthmatic and has bronchiestatis and did not have any issues. It can vary from person to person.
