A typical bacterium

I had TB in 2014. Since then I have been diagnosed with Mycobacterium avium, Pseudomonas, I also have COPD and Bronchiectasis. I had a bronchoscopy in January and so far there is no sign of the Mycobacterium, if this had not been the case I was due to begin an 18 month therapy whichI was not looking forward to as I had a severe reaction to the TB drugs. I am overjoyed and hope there are no further signs of MA in the future.

That's lovely! You must be so relieved. You must be doing something good for your immune system. :-)

My consultant asked me what have I been doing differently! my reply was justa change of diet. In actual fact I have been juicing adding turmeric and ginger and more cooking with garlic, all of which are, as I understand natural antibiotics, if that's helped, I really don't know but I would like to think that it has.

That's really interesting. Do you juice turmeric root or just add the powder? Is there any difference? Perhaps I need to put a juicer on my wish list too. I drink ginger root infusions but just because I like it. Perhaps there is something in these anti-inflammatory diets.

I use the termeric root just because I believe it to be better!! I juice the turmeric and ginger with my choice of either fruit or veg or both, I love carrott juice. As I say it's only what I think makes a difference and I haven't had a chest infection for over a year now and no MAC, I sincerely hope it ontinues. Why not get yourself a booklet on turmeric etc or google it.

Hello, Angie26, I, too, have mycobacterium avium and bronchiectasis/pseudomonas. I also have PCD. Mycobacterium avium was the first diagnosis, back in 2005, but it has not shown up on sputum tests the past 5 years. The doctor says it may still be lurking deep in my lungs, but he is encouraged not to see it. The brochietctasis has gotten worse, but I got a new lease on life when I started nebulized saline solution twice a day. I have had had no exacerbations for a whole year! So I am encouraged, too. As with another commenter above, I also have done a lot with diet and nutritional supplements to support my overall health. Also medication and exercise. Health can be a full-time job! Good luck.

It's me again - I also took an 18 month round of triple antibiotics for the mycobacterium avium complex. It did not eradicate the MAC. It was supposed to be quadruple antibiotics, but I could not tolerate the streptomycin shots. At the time, I tolerated the antibiotics well, considering. However, my gut is now so sensitive, I know I would have a terrible time with those antibiotics. Good luck.
