Hi all, my name is John, I have quit smoking about 3 months now, after 40 odd years. My problem now is I find i have problems breathing, can't seem to have a meal, or s few beers, or I find myself struggling to breath, not a happy bunny. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

It took you 40+ years to clog up your lungs so it may take a little longer than 3 months to clear them completely. Don't be discouraged. Quitting is the best favour you ever did yourself and you will see the benefits in time. If the breathlessness becomes troublesome then do consult your GP about it. Welcome to the forum.
Hi nice to meet you. I gave up smoking last summer after 44 years and find my lung function has decreased a bit. I am hoping this will right itself in time. It's still best to give up the evil weed though coz if you continue to smoke with copd it can cause it to accelerate, and the thought of ending up housebound and on full time oxygen motivated me to give up.
I am on the Quit site on here so it might be a good idea to put your post there as well. I said this same thing on there and someone said did you really think you were going to get off scot free after 44 years of smoking. They had a point and now I am grateful not to be a lot worse than I am. x
Hi Gregoir, Maybe go to your GP, there might be something that helps i.e an inhaler of some sort.👍
Hi there and welcome. Well done to quit after all those years, took me three tries. Now you have quit the doctor might be able to help, rehab often improves lung function or an inhaler. It normally takes time to improve your breathing, it might get better as your lungs clear, don't be worried about asking your GP and the quit site can answer lots more questions about the aftermath of giving up.
Well done for quitting the cigarettes!
If I were you I would’ve seeing you doctor and requesting a Spirometry test to see how well you are breathing these days and take it from there.

Well done on packing up. I was 40 a day and tried so many times it took a 10 day spell in Hospital on oxygen though double pneumonia and heart problems that made me never to smoke again but it takes a long time to get the lungs fit again. Keep it up!
Be Well
It does get worse before it gets better. My advice is patience - just stick with it, and we'll done for quitting👏👏👏
Well done! 14 years since i packed up and it does take a while for your body acustommed to its withdrawal from Nicotine. Best thing i ever did! and it will be for you too.
