My rescue prednisolone consists of 42 x 5mg tabs. Six to be taken in one dose (30mg) for 7 days.

6 at a time seems a bit of a struggle with everything else we have to take. Is this subject to a staged reduction or just stop at the end of the week? My docs instructions seem to be targeted at a staged reduction even though it is a very short(ish) time duration. I am not even sure why she has given them to me as my breathing has been better of late (Non-Smoker seems to be good for me:) ) and my Peak Flow has risen over the NS time from around 500 when I smoked to 650 now. Massive jump and knowing my recent luck very temporary:)

No tapering off, I have only had to take 3 courses since diagnosis. The first lot I swallowed one at a time. The second lot, I tried taking 3 at a time and one drifted off my tongue, when I took the water to swallow them, it went into my cheek and partly dissolved there with a really foul taste, bad enough not to want to experience it again. Back to one at a time, even though they are very tiny pills.

Your suppose to take them all at once, I tried the very first time 1 and 1 so on, Doc told me altogether, That's how I take them when needed , same as 2 Greys , xxx

Hi, my last course of prednisolone was 6 for 5 days, 5 for 2 days, 4 for 2 days, 3 for 2 days, 2 for 2 days and 1 for 2 days. I think what your doc has prescribed is ok. Highish dose to start with needs weaning off gradually to avoid side effects. If you are very concerned it might be worth asking the doc or a pharmacist.?

PS, my tablets were all 5mg. So i had 30mg a day to start with.

This is the way I take prednisolone too. Initially, I took it like 2greys, @6x5mg for 7 days, but as the courses went on, I found I had withdrawal symptoms, shivery, flu feelings, as I stopped the pred dead after 7 days. GP then recommended the tapering described by sheepdog, which seems to work well.

on my rescue pack I take 8 x 5mg for 5 days then I would taper them down, I am about to start a maintenance course of them taking 2 x 5mg everyday.

Thanks all, it looks like it is best to reduce before stopping to be on the safe side as some get reactions to stopping others don't. Rather not get the symptoms so will do as instructed.

Really not sure why I have them as I said everything seems much better after the last round of meds and PF is much better as well. I guess the doc knows best. I used to use a steroid inhaler but it gave me really bad oral thrush so have changed from steroids. This the second lot since December when I had the first really bad do with the lungs, just hoping it does not become a trend.

My rescue pack is 8 x 5mg taken all at once for 5 days. Does anyone else find them difficult to swallow despite them being tiny?

Hi andy, my rescue meds are 3 x 500mg amoxicillin for 7 days plus 8 x 5g prednisone for 5 days, I find after a couple of days i have an appetite like a horse so have to be really careful, taking the tiny pills is a nuisance but it does the trick for a short while.

When I have an infection or exacerbation I take 40 mg a day until I am feeling better then taper off very slowly down to 7-- 9 mg a day which I am on constantly. Its been like this for the last 4 years. I do not seem able to come off completely without severe reaction.
