Private care

Hi,

Has anyone gone private for the healthcare with regards to treating their COPD? I am just curious on what sort of care you received and how much it differs from the care received with the NHS.

With all the troubles the NHS is currently experiencing I am really considering going private if I could.

Thanks,

George

Hi

Depending on treatment you can still be treated in a NHS hospital with the same consultant, doctors and nurses. Just a bit quicker, and probably a private room.

Your own GP probably offers a fee paying private service.

Private Healtcare normally does not cover pre-existing conditions.

Stone is absolutely right. We have access to everything we need (depending on post code) it just might be quicker going Private.

I went privately at the start of my respiratory journey. £270 for the appt which was appalling. They have no equipment other than a handheld spirometer, oximeter & a chair which I had to stand up/sit down on until I was SOB. The clinic letter was badly written, grossly inaccurate and a waste of paper. I swapped to the nhs after that, same consultant but a much better option.

Hello George

the best thing to do is find out who is the best consultation in your area for your condition and book a private appointment with them if you don't have private medical insurance they will take you onto there books in the NHS clinic. you will still have to wait but at least you will know the person dealing with you knows what there talking about and get you on the right medication. Its better than dealing with the GP who's knowledge of COPD can be very limited in terms of the best treatment.i personally think is money well spent but do your research before booking to see someone Good luck

and don't forget there's no pocket in shrouds Ha Ha
