Merry Christmas to all. I was diagnosed with COAD over 20 years ago whilst living in South Africa. Teatment with inhalers. Over the years my condition has deteriorated and find that I dont seem to get much in the way of help or information from my GP. I Have had a couple of pneumothorax in the last couple of years. The last one ended with a procedure to introduce Talc to glue it all together.

At the moment I get short of breath easliy, while getting dressed, washing, occationally when walking from one room to another and it feels as though I am being strangled also pains in the chest. My GP says well you have COPD what else do you expect. That does not help me. I know excercise will make me breathless but why is it painful, is that normal? I have a motability car and this year I found that on a nice summers day I could go for a reide but at the other end I could not walk far enough to even go for a cuppa. I got a replacement car a few days ago with a hoist and a scooter to enable me to get out of the house to try and get a life. The first time I tried it all out I got the scooter out of the car great but when I returned I could not position the scooter in the right spot to attach the hoist. Needless to say after a few seconds I could not get air, I was trying to do breathing excercise and I was just doubled over in pain. Luckily a passer by saw my distress and helped get th e scooter into the car. After sitting for a while I could drive home. Why the pain. At times I wonder is it worth it no quality of life at all.

Hi

I use a mobility scooter, when unloading at a disabled parking bay, I take note of any markings on the road that I can use on return.

Second option cut a piece of wood dowling measured between bumper and suitable point on scooter, or piece of rope tie around tiller measured to touch bumper at the right distance.

Third option use your foot to disengage the drive from scooter, so you free wheel in to position, engage again when lifted.

Hi stone-uk. Thanks for the reply, those were some of the options I was thinking about, glad to know i'm not the only one who has had problems.
