Birds and asthma
Myself I don't know unless you have an allergy test , but my grandson has really bad asthma and he has a budgie and a African grey parrot and his asthma hasn't got worse since he's had them it's just always been bad. I know he has had allergy tests but birds never got mentioned. Maybe if you mention it to your doctor to ask if he will send you for a test, hope your ok though. Best wishes. Maureen
I have two parrots and since I was diagnosed I have left the cleaning out of them to my husband but they don't seem to make me any worse
Hi Maureen
I've had a test and it's positive, ive also got eczema but it has not flared up as yet I've had the bird parakeet a month.
Oh I hope you get sorted with something to help you, what i forgot to mention earlier was that I also have two parrots, used to have more what my husband and I rescued but unfortunately a couple of them died over the years, anyway one of the parrots we still have used to stay in the house, he was always on my shoulder, even in the bathroom getting washed himself in the sink while I would be in the shower, so funny. Then when the other parrots mate died that we had in the Avery we let the one from the house go there with it to keep it company, there very happy together, but what I am eventually trying to get to is when he was in the house it didn't make any difference to my chest problems at all then when we took him down the Avery with the other parrot and I started to go down there to clean out etc I found that I was starting to get more chest problems sweeping up as I had always left that to my husband, but as his health has got a lot worse the job was being left to me and I'm finding it very difficult as it's a large area and takes me ages, so by the time I get back into the house I'm coughing and spluttering and swearing, yes sometimes on Occasion has been known. So I'm on nebuliser every day after seeing to the parrots now. We have had them 18 years now and there is no way I would get rid or anything like that, but you just don't realise sometimes how things in your life can take such a sudden change and your not able to do what you could very easily before. We were thinking of getting an extension on the Avery what they are in so they can have a flight out, better for them and more airy for me when I have to see to them, that is going to happen next year when the weather is better than it is now. Now your eczema is another problem one of my grand children has that also and he used to always be covered bless him since he was about three we noticed it was getting bad, he went through a whole range of different creams etc over the years, I mean he is only 9 now but my daughter and me were just talking about this the other day that he hasn't been anything like as bad for a good while now but one thing we did notice about it was every time he ate tomatoes it seamed to trigger it and made it worse, so we stopped giving him them and it didn't go away but didn't flare up like it had been if you know what I mean. So maybe you could have a good allergy that might be the answer. Anyway I hope you get sorted with all your problems soon. Asthma is bad enough, I also have that but eczema too well lets hope you get results soon. Best wishes Maureen x
Hi Maureen.
I'm going to look for a home for my parakeet, as this morning i feel quite chesty.
I wear a mask when handling my parakeet, I got them off ebay, seam quite good.
Janet. ☺
Oh well that's fine you have to look after yourself, and I'm sure you will make sure it goes to a good home, take care. Maureen xx
Hi Maureen.
Thank you I hope so, I have grown so found of him, it's upset me that much, my chest has been tight, now bringing mucus up and very tired I have Bronchectasis as well as asthma so don't know if it's the bird affecting my asthma or another infection with my Bronchectasis, one gets so fed up.
Oh I know how you feel I also have bronchiectasis and asthma everything is becoming very hard I'm trying not to let it take over my life, but well you know how it goes? I'm off to my physio appointment this morning at a hospital where I live, and my consultant has requested I also attend another physio a few miles from where but they have sort of clashed with my first appointment as when I finish one I have to immediately drive or in my case today my daughter is driving me to the next with not a lot of time in between, I also go on a Monday, I always feel terrible on Tuesday but they say it's to help so I do as I'm told, well sometimes ha ha. It's not getting very much sleep at all that's getting to me, sitting up with six pillows behind me, oh what I would give just to lie down and have good nights sleep, but they wont give sleeping tablets as the doctor said it's dangerous. Oh well just have to try to keep going. Take care and I hope you get sorted very quickly with your bird, then you can settle down and look after yourself. Best wishes Maureen xx
Hi Maureen.
I'm not as bad as you, I really feel for you, having to have pillows like that behind you.
The doctor said it's my Asthma, I've got allergic asthma, it's not to bad at moment, she has put me on some antibiotics and given me some steroids just in case it gets worse, but I don't feel I need them at the moment.
It's the parakeet, that has triggered it off.
I'm looking for a sanctuary for him, there is a wild life park who would take him, which is a few hours drive from me here in scarborough.
Sounds a wonderful place for him, so giving it some thought.
I'm waiting now to go for some skin allergy tests, I've not had a food one yet, I've got multiple allergies.
Take care.
Janet 🙄
Oh I see Janet I mean about that allergic asthma as my mother law was the same when she was alive, our dogs used to trigger hers off when she came to our house, unless it was me lol. I'm pleased your going to take your parakeet to somewhere like that, I'm sure it will love it there. You take care and I hope you get sorted very soon love Maureen xx
Where's 2greys ??
I mean food allergy ..
Before i had NSIP i was diagnosed with Extrinsic Allergic Avelotis (hypersensitive puemontis) at 16, which was brought on by the Bloom so the feathers and poo particles from the bird. This was diagnosed through a bronscopy. It's called the bird fanciers lungs, quite common in farmers.
Hi Janet sorry haven't replied straight away got 8th chest infection in a row but I will write as soon as I feel better, lovely to hear from you though. Love Maureen xxx
