Hi yesterday I was changed from taking 40mg prednisolone to 40mg hydrocortisone for my asthma because I have been diagnosed as having tertiary adrenal insufficiency which is where your hypothalamus is suppressed. Does anyone else take hydrocortisone for asthma or any brrathing conditions?

Hydrocortisone for Asthma
Yes, I was switched recently. You may experience difficulty because you will need at least four times the amount of HC to pred. And you may find you need some pred too. Best place to look is addisons.org. everything adrenal is there.
thank you for replying 40mg prednisolone is 160mg hydrocortisone. I got very poorly last week and am now on 90mg hydrocortisone to help me switch over. The worst was the spongy legs!
I still think you are going to need some Pred in there for your asthma. HC is for the adrenals. I fell through the cracks, and was up to 20mg Pred. It caused all kind of problems, like Addison's and Cushing's and cateracts. Since switching to HC I have felt much better, but still need 5 mg Pred to feel OK. It is definitely worth trawling through the Addison's societywebsite to understand more. Doctors don't usually know much about this. You have one patient, they have hundreds!
unfortunately prednisolone has been added to my allergy list as an adverse reaction so no health care professional will give me any. looks like i will have to manage on inhalers and hydrocortisone.
Oh dear. How awful. Is it something in the fillers?
absolutely no idea I do not agree with there decision. I think I just got constipated but they are classing that as an adverse reaction. it is something I would like to challenge if I get the oppirtunity
Please do challenge it. There may come a time when you really, really need it. I hardly think that being constipated qualifies as an allergy.
i have put a complaint into my gp practice.
Brilliant. Let me know what happens...
