Help and Advice
Hi welcome to the site. You are young to be diagnosed but there are several here around your age. Have you been tested for a genetic link yet? Because of your young age you should be given a simple blood test to see if you have the Alpha1 Defiency gene. If not then ask for it.
You will get loads of help and advice on here. We are a big BLF family who support each other. xx
The only test that has been done on me was a chest x-ray and a CT scan which confirmed that emphysema in the middle of my chest COPD was confirmed on my x-ray I have been getting lots of Voice for the last seven months now and lots of weight used to go gym three times a day just before Christmas and I was rushed into hospital with breathing problems that’s when the problem started But they sent me for an ultrasound scan which confirmed everything was fine but I now have to go to see ear nose and throat on the 5 of October Thanks for your reply
Thanks will contact the doctor to find out more x

Hi you still need to ask your doctor for the Alpha1 Deficiency test. This is mandatory at your young age according to the NICE guidelines. The reason you need to know is that it could progress quicker if you have the genetic link. I am not sure but the treatment could vary a bit too. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
You need to get in touch with Alpha One awareness UK.
As a previous poster has put BLF broadly covers all lung conditions.
And if you need help being so young in getting tested the Alpha One awareness UK people can help with this.
It's one of the rarer types of COPD and it's important to get advice from the outset on dianosis if a possibility you have the gene.
Greetings
It's no consolation to either of us, but I was 38 when I got my initial diagnosis of emphysema. I'd been aware of shortness of breath for a while by then. Still - the good news for you is, I'm now 70. Get all the info you can, and stay healthy!

Hi Robert re your emphysema here are some tips to clear your lungs of mucus:
TO GET RID OF MUCUS IN YOUR LUNGS PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING THREE STEPS :-
1.Hold stomach in with both hands. Then take a deep breath in through your nose and blow out through pursed lips. Repeat 5 times.
2.Now hold your ribcage with both hands. Take a deep breath in through your nose and blow out through pursed lips. Repeat 5 times.
3.Hold you’re hands down by your side and Huff 5 times.
Doing the above daily will bring up any mucus you hold in your lungs.
