BenjaZin profile image

I was diagnosed 3years ago.Really not sure at what stage I am. I live in France I really didn't know there were different stages until I joined this group.

About 20 years for me on steroids/Antibiotics every few months till i realised I had to start helping myself have had 1 lot of Antibiotics/Steroids in 9 months this site is excellent as we have all gone through many stages of COPD. Was on oxygen list but not any more we have to do what we can to halt the progress.

Keep active walk as much as possible singing is also good for COPD exercises that moves arms help also sniffing Eucalyptus Oil or sucking Fishermans Friends good the oil has made a lot of difference to my breathing as i am off the needing oxygen list. (Chest nurse said the Oil & Fishermns Friend are excellent for opening Airways. But Hypertension can rise if already high so have to be careful if you have Hypertension. Also we need 3,000 cal just because we use a lot of energy breathing. If phlegm too thick doctor might give tabs to thin. There are a lot of others like myself who can advise on many matters as they are going through the same.

Keep as active as possible try to eat regular meals or supplements if appetite poor. Singing is good as it opens Airways I was housebond for 3 months last winter then started going shopping on the Town Rider which picks me up at home takes me to shops & back home twice a week. I was so bad oxygen was calling me but by pushing the shopping trolley round shops i started to breathe properly again it is the action of pushing trolley that opens the Airways. A lot of us on here pass on tips just ask the questions & anyone of us who can answer with the right help will reply.

Sorry to hear you were so poorly last winter. I'm so glad I have someone to talk to about my copd as my hubby didn't seem to know what to say or do to comfort me when I was diagnosed.

Most say to me you look so well as I always put a bit of make up on to go out. A lot of the time I would love to stay in bed all day but inactivity is the worst thing ever for COPD as we have to help ourselves the best we can. As said before it is 20 years since I gave up smoking &12 years since it was properly diagnosed (not 2o like i said) I nearly let it destroy me but have a few other major diseases & grieving over loss of mum, dying of loneliness as i was my dear mums' only carer for 7 years 24/7 & suffering depression. I am having an abdominal full Hysterectomy 11 Sept (refused before as i am having 2 short breaks away with my best friend Dot J who keeps me going. Have Colitis but my marvelous Specialist has kept under control, Hypertension which they are finind hard to control, A/F irregular heartbeat which my Bowel Specialist said tabs I am on will kill me so been waiting 7 weeks for urgent Cardiologist appointment & Hiatus Hernia so have to work at lving day to day but with the help of this wonderful website my Copd is improving. Away tom & Fri but back Sat take care XC

Thanks but live on my own (not really have my beloved cat lol) DLA, gardening when up to it have a few excellent friends when needed, Internet, Town Rider Mini Bus takes me shopping Weds & Sat deliveries from Iceland & Tesco when needed so I am blessed in many ways. Depression stayed away after last lot of Prozac have my glass is half full not half empty outlook XC

Hi lync11 I have severe emphysema and it's not the end of the world, I go to gym 3 times a week and cycle plus walking a lot with our dog, sure I have some days which aren't so good but I keep going :)

lync11 profile image
