Emphysema: Can anyone tell me if you... - Lung Conditions C...
Emphysema
Any chest pain is of concern, you need to see your doctor.
I have severe emphysema and tend to push my lungs really hard with exercise, I do not get pains as you are describing other than if I sneeze explosively/really violently.
If this is a new symptom then always get it checked out by your GP. There are many causes for chest pain and differing types of pain so to be safe if the pain is constant ring 111 for advice.
Hi I have emphsema on oxygen and get pain just under my Breast take care ps have told Doctor and hospital
Hi Mead, Id agree a good idea to check this out with your doctor even if the pain is intermittent. But when you have more severe emphysema, it's not unusual to have pain in the rib area which comes from remodelling of the chest structure and its muscles due to air-trapping (hyperventilation). I have this a lot - its always there and ranges from a dull discomfort which Im used to, to a fully blown pain which makes it hard to walk any distance. In my case when it's bad its accompanied by a large pregnant (7 months?) stomach, presumably due to the enlarged lungs taking up more space and pushing the diaphragm and stomach further down. That's my lay explanation for it anyway
thanks for that 02trees I often get a dull ache at the bottom of my left hand rib cage but find it eases if I gently rub it in small circular movements with a gentle fist and suspected it might be trapped wind either in lungs or stomach so nice to see my theory maybe correct and that O'm not alone.
I tend to get pain when I have an infection, but that can occur in different places each time. Mostly I get pain in the lower part of my lungs, where my lungs seem to rub on my ribs. I just take ibuprofen to try and help with that. But it does limit me on the amount of walking I can do. Whenever I speak to my doctor about it they just shrug it off. Hope you have better luck.
When my posture is bad i.e. when I'm ironing my lower lungs ache and burn. Once I'm back to standing upright or sitting with support on my back they settle down
Thank you all very much lot of nice advice thank you all very much it takes me 2 days to get a call back from my doctor so I will get back to you all.
I have pains witch are around my ribs front side and back. But feel like they are inside ie in my lung. (Your lungs have no pain reseptors or nerv endings so cant feel pain. So im told.) I get an awful lot of pain but no one can pin down why. My doctor and consultant do take theas pains seriosly i am on gabbapentin at the moment, but they cant tell me why im in pain. Do go and see your dock just incase but acsept the painkillers when they are offerd it wont go away on its own. Good luck
