severe copd and severe emphysema
Hi claiming for sickness depends not on your illness but how it affects you. If you can't work you may qualify for ESA which is general sickness benefit. Also PIP which is a separate benefit. If PIP is granted it is extra money given to you for help with costs of your illness and is not usually means tested so you would keep it all and it is not taxed etc,
If you live on your own and/or have no other income coming in or savings above a certain level (I think it is £6,000) then you might also be able to claim housing benefit and council tax rebate. Not sure about mortgage payments but I think after a while they will pay the interest only.
Have a look at Govt.UK where you will find all the info you need.
Oh and I believe you apply to your local council for a blue badge, Others will be able to give you more help with this.
If you are still working you can still apply for PIP as you can claim this whether you are working or not.
thank you for info but may i ask where or who do i see about this pip thing
Look on the Govt.UK site. it tells you all about it on there.
You could ring the BLF helpline on 03000 030 555 and arrange to speak to a benefits advisor. They are open 9-5 Monday to Friday.
If you are considering PIP then Google search "local welfare rights groups" as these organisations will be able to help you complete the forms (for free) which us mere mortals could never complete alone!
Good luck
When you go on to the UK/Gov site Look at The PIP descriptors. These can tell you how to gain the points needed.
Greetings
The good news is that COPD is a "blanket" term which includes emphysema, so you have only one lung disease, not two.
Ask you doctor to refer you for a pulmonary rehabilitation programme, where you will learn more about your condition; you will also go through an exercise programme which will improve your capacity to do things.
All things are relative, of course. If you have mild emphysema, you can probably go about your life without too many difficulties, and so you wouldn't be able to claim anything, including a blue badge.
so you think copd is a blanket term then sorry too say that my pulmonary rehabilitation consultant say that copd is your air way getting samller and emem of your lungs are not working right and as it say in the title i have severe copd and severe emphysema not mild and i am not one of theses people that are just looking for a hand out dont get me wrong am just looking for help
Catnip is quite correct. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, is a term which describes lung conditions that make it difficult to empty air out of the lungs because your airways have been narrowed. Two of these lung conditions are chronic bronchitis and emphysema, which can also occur together.
See the British Lung Foundation information leaflet:
blf.org.uk/support-for-you/...
am just going of what my consultant say that all he say they are copd for narrowed of airways and emphysema is the lung

Same problem, like you have given up the smoking. You can make a claim for benefits but it depends on age which type of claim you make try the dept of work & pensions, PIP for working age Attendance allowance for over 65. You are also entitled to apply for other benefits such as council tax reduction. They determine how much you could claim by your condition. A blue badge can be obtained but you have to make an application to your local issuing authority, then have an assessment and if acceptable you get a badge.

thank you
