Hi

Check

gov.uk/benefits-calculators

For general benefits.

And for PIP

gov.uk/pip

Also check with your local council for housing and council tax benefits.

Benefits are not always related to a illness but how you are effected by the illness.

Well a lot depends on whether you live on your own or whether you have a partner who is working. If the former then if you consider you aren't fit to work you need to go and see your doctor and get a sick/fit note. Then you need to claim ESA which is sickness benefit.

You might also be able to claim housing benefit, council tax rebate, and PIP. Have a look at the Govt.UK site as there is lots of info on there. .

You can also ring the BLF number as there is a benefits advisor you can speak to. They work 9-5 Monday to Friday. Good luck.

Go to CAB they will help with anything & when you have forms to fill in excellent with proper advice etc their Website explains PIP & what is needed for you to receive it how your condition affects you & what the points system is & how many points for each answer.

It depends on your age up 65 I think it is a PIP application you need to make, after 65 it's Attendance allowance, you may also be able to claim for a carer that depends on your particular financial situation.

Your can get an online application for attendance allowance from Dept of Work & Pensions although be prepared to fill up 38 pages of info, the form outlines what other benefits you might be able to claim, reduced council tax for example.

Good luck

If you were 65 in April 2013 you would apply for attendance allowance. If not it would be PIP.

Good luck Erin! I have literally just got off the phone after making my claim for PIP. It's a 15 minute call where they ask a few details, nothing too difficult though, they have processed me and will now send out the form to fill in. Fingers crossed for you! (And me 😜) The number to call is 08009172222

Hope it goes well, Brian :)

Equal lives can give you advice and help to fill in forms. Ask every one and see witch one you think would be best for you. Do make as many notes of phone calls and what is said as its easy to get muddled and forget bits of what you are told. Good luck. And rember its not the illness but the way it effects your every day life that pip is based on
