After 20 days of suffering i am finally diagnosed with pseudomonas aeruginosa. I am 26 years old with no previous chest infection i was so healthy until i took part in water festival in thailand. I am so frightened, doc prescribed me with clindamycin 300mg every 8 hours, its day 3 mucus has decreased but i still have cough and feel like something is stuck in my chest. Is this the right medication? How long it takes to get cured? I had severe restlessness fever and confusion but now its gone. My pulse remains above 100 b/m. All the doc are taking it so lightly, shall i be worried. 😢

pseudomonas aeruginosa
Hi Alexander and welcome to the forum. I know little about this so will leave it to others to advise you but your doc does seem to be on the ball.
Hi, It is good that they have found the bug. They should have tested it against various antibiotics so hopefully it was found to be sensitive to clindamycin. Often for pseudomonas they use another antibiotic called ciprofloxacin. Check it out with your doctor. Best wishes.
Hi, you have my sympathies, very scary for you.
Are you still in Thailand? If so email BLF for guidance. If in UK call the BLF help line, UK office hours 03000 030555
The bacteria you have is a stubborn one, make sure you finish the course of antibiotics and if not much improved a couple of days before you finish them you absolutely must go back to doc. I'm not sure - I'm no doctor, we're all patients here - but it's quite possible one course won't be enough.
It's really important to lay off alcohol so antibiotics can work, eat well, take some extra vitamin c to help your immune system.
If you put pseudomonas in the search bar top right old post and info will come up.
Let us know how you get on and all the best. Peege
Hi Alexander. No need to panic. Pseudomonas is a stubborn bug to deal with and it loves warm damp places. It lives in places like whirlpool baths and in the atmosphere in hot damp countries (especially in 'jungly' areas.
As you are normally a well person I think that you have just been unlucky and hopefully it is a one off. I haven't heard of the antibiotic that you are taking as ciproxin is the usually the first line drug for it. Do take the full course and then go back to your doc if you still feel unwell or are still producing any mucus. You may need a course of cipro if the clindamycin doesn't complete the job.The feeling of something stuck in your chest is most probably this mucus. You need to cough it out if you can to help get rid of the bug. Drink plenty of water. I hope that you are better soon.
Thanks for replies, u guys made me feel better psychologically.
I agree with Hidden , as you've no history of chest problems you should be able to eradicate this bout of pseudomonas (ignore any scare stories on the internet.) My only query is why your doctor has prescribed clindamycin? It's not normally effective against pseudomonas, and as you can see from your sputum culture result, clindamycin isn't on the list of recommended antibiotics. To be honest, if it were me, I'd go back and ask for ciprofloxacin, as that's a very effective oral one which IS on the list.
