Hi PopsyPollard. We're all about lung problems here but there is a Prostate Cancer site on Health Unlocked. Just go to "browse communities" & do a search. My father in law had his removed and lived for many years afterwards, eventually dying of something else entirely. Like you, his cancer was confined to the prostate & had not yet spread to the spine etc so he was lucky.

If you also have a diagnosis of COPD, check with your respiratory consultant if there could be a concern the anaesthetic could compromise your breathing.

If you have cancer prostate, and have been given advice to have it removed, go for the treatment. You have been lucky enough in having this condition diagnosed early. All the best x

My husband has just recovered from radiotherapy for prostate cancer and has his 6 month review on Friday. He is very well. We also have a friend who had his prostate removed and is very well. Both are your age. Has anyone mentioned radiotherapy? Do you have lung problems as well. Seems to me it would be worth talking to someone, Postate Uk has a very good website, also Macmillan. Hope you can untangle things quickly and get the right treatment for you. Btw the radiotherapy is not invasive but is tiring and is 20 sessions spread over 4 weeks. Good luck.

Hello, very sorry to hear this. Based on the experience of my husband I would say take the treatment offered.

My husband refused to have his removed, defused radio therapy and refused the hormone treatment . Long story short his lovely grandchildren never got to meet him after it mastestasised to his bones.

I wish you all the very best with your decision. Peege

G'day Mate

You do not say how long you have been diagnosed?

There two thoughts on this disease...first is surgery...the other is live with it and play Russian roulette.

I have 2 friends both who had prostrate cancer

The first was diagnosed 12 years ago, he researches everything before making decisions, this was no different. His PSA count was 27. He did not have the surgery...his count today is 5.

If you want info on the treatment he undertook, here is the site

home.online.no/~dusan/disea...

Dr Budwig is a German lady who has had terrific results.

I tried the treatment (Meal) 10 years ago, never had my PSA done prior so I do not know what my "start off" figures were but over the years my avg is 0.037. I stopped 2 years ago and my current is 0.3

The other friend was diagnosed 5 years ago (in his 50's) both his father and grand father passed from prostrate cancer, he himself would never have the test. Has has had the prostrate removed..then told it was in his bones...He had both radiotherapy and chemo treatments...now he is in remission.

From what I have learned ,doing my own research, it depends on your age when first diagnosed. My GP informed me that if I was diagnosed now (I am 75) that i would probably die WITH it not OF it.

The meal That is recommended by Dr Budwig is

I tablespoon Flaxseed oil (must be refrigerated, not off a shelf)

I " LSA (Crushed nut) mix

1 " Low fat cottage cheese

! " Low fat yoghurt

I Increased this to 3 tablespoons of each and added a banana and fresh berries as the meal is quite bland. The meal is eaten (like a smoothie) once a day.

If you have blood tests done, you might like to ask the GP to include a "Free flow ratio", do not be concerned if he/she does nor know what you are talking about. The Scientists (that's what they now like to be called) do understand this terminology.

It gives a % figure and determines what percentage of blood is "free flowing" thru your system. Under 20% is a problem. My first was 37%, now it is at 58%, due to a healthy diet.

The best suggestion I can give you is.... follow your Dr's advice, and if concerned get a second opinion. Better still if you can get to talk with a surgeon who actually is involved in Prostrate problems.

Best of luck with whatever decision you make.

Had my Prostate 'reamed out' and 'downsized' a few months back. No problem with operation as I had spinal anaesthetic. Just laid there and watch the activity! It went well, but I do have a ongoing requirement for a catheter. No problem again but a bit of nuisance. Better than the alternative though...........
